Elizabeth Holden married T Sgt Earl Childers in a Fort Pierce ceremony at the Brunens home officiated by Rev J E McKinley. The bride, a Glen Rose High School graduate who worked in Ft Worth, will reside in Orlando with her husband.
The Eastern Star Organization will observe Memorial Day with a program and drill titled Beyond The Golden Gate. The event is at 8:00 p.m. Monday May 30 in the high school gym. Members and the public are invited.
Plans for a summer softball program in Glen Rose include 75 grade school boys and 40 high school boys forming teams with sponsors. A meeting at the Court House Monday invites potential sponsors, with play projected to start around June 6 or 7.
Members of the Miller and Beasley families gathered at Oakdale Park in Glen Rose for a farewell get together for Major Luther Simpson Mrs Simpson Laura and Warren who depart for England where he will serve in the US Air Force for three years. The gathering included many relatives and friends and a noon basket lunch followed by photos and visiting.

Monetary benefits from the Veterans Administration paid to veterans of United States Wars in Somervell County and their survivors or dependents for April 1955 totaled 9294.00 dollars, reported by the State of Texas Veterans Affairs Commission.
The Voluntary Home Mortgage Credit Program authorized by the Housing Act of 1954 assists eligible veterans by directing all VA direct loan applications to the Regional Committee of the program. The VA will refer applications to the committee before VA consideration.

Decendants, friends, and Texas legislators gathered May 10 in Austin to unveil a portrait of Col Francis Marion Weatherred. Gen Preston A Weatherred presented the piece as Lt. Gov Ben Ramsey and others attended. Weatherred, a Republic era senator, was noted for land grants tied to Texas independence and ties to Gen Francis Marion and Gen Thomas Sumpter. Mrs Grady Pullen of the local faculty is a great granddaughter and planned future viewing.
John Carlisle was installed as president of the Cleburne Optimist Club at a Tuesday night meeting led by district Lieutenant-Governor Lewis Armstrong who also received a lifetime membership award. Carlisle is a former Glen Rose resident and Armstrong belongs to a pioneer Somervell County family and is married to Mary Ann Prutt.
Watrous H Irons president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas is appointed to chair the Texas United Defense Fund for the 1955-56 drive succeeding the 1954-55 campaign. The USO remains the principal agency providing recreation for service members and their families with Ben H Wooten named general chairman for the effort.

The Church of Christ invites attendees to its annual homecoming this Sunday at the church. Bro. M. L. Daniel will preach the morning sermon and there will be singing in the afternoon.
Scotty Willingham celebrated his first birthday May 22 with a party at his parents home Mr and Mrs James Willingham. Guests enjoyed decorations, games, and a miniature train cake while siblings and mothers mingled. Attendees included Herbie Holland Gaye Gibbs Gary Gilmore Teddy McLemore and many others with grandmothers present.
Old timers gather in Glen Rose for a weekend homecoming with 5:30 p.m. registration at the High School and a 7:00 p.m. Saturday dinner. Ham provided by the committee, desserts donated by local ladies, speaker George Sandlin, and Sunday barbecue dinner with local contributions. Leslie Hart leads as general chairman with Herbert Connally as vice chair. Mary Lee Bridges serves as secretary-treasurer.
The Queens of the First Baptist Church will crown Miss Eulene Alexander as their Queen Sunday evening at 7 30 p m The ceremony will include the Queen's Court and official festivities surrounding the coronation.

Quanah High School will send Miss Kay Hanna, junior daughter of Mr and Mrs Jack Hanna, as representative to the Bluebonnet Girls State in Austin June 6 to 15. Selection requires ranking in upper junior class, good health and character, leadership, sportsmanship, courage and citizenship. Miss Hanna is granddaughter of Dr and Mrs J J Hanna.
