Pet Show Brings Crowded Fun and Many Winners

Last Saturday event drew 100 plus entries with many prizes and ribbons. Don Baker led a standout showing including two baby crows and multiple top places across dogs cats rabbits and other small animals.

Dog Parade Winners and Education Honor at Tarleton

Winners listed for the dog parade include Loretta Rives first and Jeane McDonough second with Tim Stewart fourth and Linda Thompson fifth. Mr and Mrs Leslie Hart attended the Parents Day Program at Tarleton on May 4 where their son Weldon received the outstanding Student award in Education as the first boy to earn the honor.

Mother's Day Honors At First Baptist Church

The church awarded flowers to Mrs. Ann McKinney as youngest mother and to Mrs. J. W. Jennings, 84, of Brownwood as oldest mother. Mrs. Robert D. English received honors as the mother with the most children.

Charles Grady Selected for 1958 Texas Tech Summer Program

Charles Grady of Walnut Springs High School will attend the 1958 five week Summer Program for Talented High School Students at Texas Technological College Lubbock. He will study Physics as part of a state wide effort by several colleges to offer advanced Science and Mathematics courses. William M Hawkins Early Bell County Pioneer Rites

William Monroe Hawkins born April 1 1868 Cherokee Alabama died May 7 1958. He moved to Bell County Texas in 1889 married Emma Clary November 8 1893 and settled Rock Creek December 10 1904. Survived by five sons Clyde Erwin Amos Virgil Herman two daughters Orell Reeves Attie J Hawking ten grandchildren five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Elder A D Wood led services with Leroy Looper assisting. Pallbearers were F F Stringer Howard Brawley Earnest Ramsey Wayne Eddy Bill Tiwater and Coll Martin. Remembered by family and community links.
