The column mentions a local accident where Howard crawled a limb with a power saw and possibly cut it off. Bill Hawkins rode a cow pony and fell, injuring his ankle after a sharp turn. Barber Lloyd Locke reports the horse made a swift left and Bill went straight.
Funeral services were held in Cleburne for Robert “Bob” Norton 20 killed when a bulldozer backed over him at the Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station site. An inquest by Justice of the Peace H C Polley ruled accidental death. Norton, a Cleburne High School graduate and former football manager, lived with his parents and survived by a brother in Singapore and a sister in Troy. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery with a silent memorial at 11:00 to 11:02 Monday on site.
The 18th District Grand Jury indicted Larry Paul Bone 23 for the murder of Louis Carlton Carroll 21. Carroll was shot while in his car near the courthouse square on Sunday night February 15. Bone is jailed in Weatherford after the panel’s one day session.
Frank Willey commissioner caucuses a road east of Highway 67 near the Brazos River bridge fueling dispute in Somervell County Commissioners Court. Judge Jack Cathey and others argue the court previously agreed the county cannot lawfully build the roadway despite Willey’s push.
Weather Observer Robert A. Mack reports a dry week with temperatures from 28 to 85 degrees. February rainfall totals 0.52 inches, bringing year‑to‑date moisture to 0.78 inches. County commissioners approved paying a private contractor’s 1 555 dollar road bill to avoid a lawsuit, and set a 500 dollar limit without court vote for future commitments.
Walnut Springs hosts the Tenth Annual Rattlesnake Hunt this Friday through Sunday under Lions Club sponsorship. Activities include daily hunts, snake handling and milking demonstrations, plus a big Saturday night dance in the Lions Den with live music.
In two recent meetings the School Board approved contract extensions for administrators with at least two years on the local faculty. Superintendent Charles W. Gibbs received a three year extension, while Principals Harry Lister and Laurie Moseley were renewed for two years. Funeral services for Robert Francis Dotson age 76 were conducted at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Dotson a Glen Rose resident and retired gro cer died after several weeks illness. He was born March 21 1899 in Erath County son of Joe and Modenna Dotson. Surviving are one son Robert F Dotson of Fort Worth two daughters Mary Jo McDonough of Glen Rose and J L Paredes of Arlington Va a sister Maud Tankersley of Glen Rose and three grandchildren Interment followed at Squaw Creek Cemetery with Boyd Reynolds Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were deacons Buck Bridewell Lynn Cook Lynn ONeal Bill Lewis Les Elliott Clyde Sexton and Leroy Gibson as alternate.
Glen Rose High School senior class sponsors a barbecue dinner Friday from 5 30 to 8 00 in the school lunch room. A $2 50 plate will be served by Hammonds Barbecue. Attendees are invited to help raise funds for class expenses during the year.
The annual amateur talent show sponsored by the CSO will be at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium this Saturday. Participants should contact Mrs. Dooley to join. Admission is 25 and 50 cents with proceeds aiding local schools.
The Defensive Driving Course will be taught March 8 to 12 in the Glen Rose High School library from 7 to 9 p.m. Registration starts at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Contact Home Demonstration Agent Mrs. David Brown or the superintendent's office for information.
