Woman Guilty in Slaying of Spouse in Texas Court
Joyce Coker Reed was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter by an 18th District Court jury for the Nov 26 killing of William Thomas Reed. The panel of 12, led by Judge Byron Crosier, gave a 10 year probated sentence. Prosecution was led by Oran Smith Jr. and Wayne Bridewell with Sam Freas assisting. Bone, 23, is accused of shooting Louis Carlton Carroll, 21, in his car on the courthouse square Sunday Feb. 15. He was captured in Atlanta and returned to Weatherford where he remains jailed without bond awaiting grand jury action.

Giant Concrete Pour at Comanche Peak Unit One Site
A massive concrete pour was completed at the Comanche Peak Unit One reactor site four miles north of town, starting 7 a.m. Saturday and ending 5 p.m. Sunday. About 6,600 cubic yards of concrete were used to build the reactor bulwark, with 3,441,000 pounds of cement and 12,725,000 pounds of rock and 8,655,000 pounds of sand. The containment base is 135 feet across with a 54 foot central opening, and the pour covered four million pounds of structural steel. Ground-level completion reached 12 feet thick, with 75 percent cure in 12 days and 95 percent in 28 days.
