Sixty nine members sponsors and visitors joined a 50 mile trail ride ending in Somervell County. The group camped at Broken Arrow Ranch hosted by W D Youngblood then rode into town Sunday noon. Earl Cremeans led as trail boss with services by Rev C Edward Shipman.
Sheriff C. M. Speck Strawn reported a hot check artist swindled Glen Rose three local firms out of 75 dollars using three different names but the same rural address Rt. 2 Box 144B. The Food Center Red & White Superette and Gresham & Co were affected. Authorities warn business people to verify identifications before cashing unfamiliar checks as con artists are active in the area.
James Huckabee, 17, of Fort Worth, paid a total of 185 dollars in fines and costs and received a six month suspended jail term after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated. His car struck a parked Thunderbird at Bill Mullens Texaco Station causing about 500 dollars in damage. He fled the scene and was later taken into custody by Cleburne officers. He was joined by two other juveniles, Stanley Carpenter and Gary D Molder, who faced separate charges and fines.
Funeral services for Albert Dawson Holden seventy died in the local hospital Monday night were held at the Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Basham and Rev. John Hutcheson at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Holden born Fort Worth July 29 1899 was a 39 year resident, ran a real estate agency since 1945 and once worked in West Texas oil fields. Survivors include wife Ruby Knight daughter Mrs Earl L Childers son J H Holden brothers and sisters, two granddaughters Kim and Debbie Childers. Burial at Glen Rose Cemetery with pallbearers Walter Ernst Jerre Deason Bill Gavit Bill Pruitt Jack Bridges Jr. and Jack McCarty.
Local men interested in playing softball are invited to meet at the Little League diamond tonight at 8 p.m. to organize a league of at least three teams. Roy Peanut Ice said there may be enough area teams for an interesting summer program.
Social Security payments for Somervell County residents totalled 456000 dollars yearly as 1969 ended. A 15 percent increase signed by President Nixon on Dec 30 1969 raises benefits for 552 local beneficiaries. Of recipients 417 are retired workers or dependents, 94 survivors, 41 disabled or dependents of disabled workers.
