Parker-Davis Home to Receive Historical Marker

The James T. Parker home built in 1890 near Glen Rose will be honored with an official Texas Historical Building Medallion. Presentation ceremonies are set for Sunday at 2 p.m. with Senator J. P. Ward as principal speaker and the Davis family accepting the marker.

Glen Rose FFA Team Second At Contests

Glen Rose FFA placed second in the Junior Hereford Field Day Judging Contest at Nebletts Ranch Stephenville among 48 teams. Bob White was fifth high individual. Callahan County won top honors and others placed eighth ninth. A 550-person audience enjoyed a free barbeque dinner and demonstrations.

Weather Bureau records by T J Davis show .57 inches of rain for June thus far, bringing the year total to 19.24 inches, compared with 16.50 inches at the same point last year. Year-to-date temperatures have not reached 100 degrees, with a high of 99 on June 15.

Round-Up Days planned in Glen Rose July 2 8

Plans for the annual Round-Up Days in Glen Rose July 2 and 8 are complete with events across the town. Highlights include Little League game at Tiger Park, a street dance, pancake breakfast, city tours, a public dunking, Old Fiddlers contest, a parade led by Glen Rose High School Sabertooth Tiger Band, a Helicopter Show from Camp Wolters, Naughty Follies Revue, and the Somervell County Junior Rodeo with cash prizes and trophies.

Rites Held Here For Shock Victims

Funeral services for Ron ald Stacy 13 and Theresa Stacy 11 children of W W Stacy of Odessa were held in Glen Rose with Rev. Hubert McFarlin officiating. The siblings died by electrocution while chasing a rabbit, when a water hose and upturned irrigation pipe touched a power line. The father suffered burns while attempting to save them. Interment followed in Nancy Smith Cemetery.

Oil Venture to Drill 5000-Foot Test on Ben Meith Tract

A wildcat oil test is planned on the Ben Meith tract with Ernest Clasuit of Fort Worth as operator and Buck Jones Drilling Co. of McCamey as contractor. The rig is being moved to the site and drilling should start soon at a depth of 5000 feet with rotary tools. Crews will be brought in from McCamey.

Minor Traffic Crash Investigated in Glen Rose

Marshal Danny Smith reported investigating a minor traffic accident in Glen Rose Saturday morning at the Highway 67 and 144 intersection. Autos driven by Richard Grimaldo and Henry Campbell collided. damage was minor. Mr and Mrs Wasie Early of Cleburne visited Hershel Barclay over the weekend.

Red Cross Sponsors Swim Program at Oakdale Pool

Somervell County Red Cross Chapter announces Swim and Stay Fit at Oakdale Pool. Eligible swimmers must have reasonable ability to enroll. the 50 mile target uses 440 yard segments, with 200 segments totaling 50 miles. Participants earn certificates after each 10 mile section and badges after finishing the full 50 miles.

High School Baseball Game Set Friday Night

High school boys will play ex-students in a baseball game Friday night at the local diamond. Game time is 7:30 and admission is 25 cents.

Corner Drug Team Tops Little League Standings

Corner Drug Store's Little League squad has won all three games to lead the standings. The Young Farmers are second with two wins and one loss, followed by Crabtree Chevrolet at one win and two defeats. Superette has opened with three losses. In Pony League action the Bill Mullen Station and Doyle Aston Grocery and Station teams sit tied at one win each.
