Members of the Central Texas Methodist Conference meeting in Dallas last week voted to launch a building and refurbishing program at Glen Lake Methodist. The project is estimated to cost about $250 000 and aims to improve facilities and capacity for the congregation.
Mrs Georgia Rhodes principal of the Cottonwood Baptist Church Vacation Bible School announced the school runs Monday through Friday June 24 with 7 9 p m daily and a commencement that night Camp plans include a new dining hall kitchen and conference rooms 80000 plus various upgrades and new buildings with a total project cost and fundraising targets outlined by Camp Supt Tom Vossig and conference secretary Rev Gordon Dennis of Cleburne
The Somervell County Livestock Association will meet Friday at 8 p.m. to discuss plans for a parade and rodeo during Glen Rose Round-Up Days. Sam White, president, urges all members to attend. Mr and Mrs Lewis Firestone visited in Haskell over the weekend with his mother Mrs F I Pearsey.
Rev. J. L. Glaze of First Methodist Church announces the annual summer revival from Sunday through June 26. Morning services start at 6 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts in the fellowship hall, and evening services begin at 7:45 p.m. The evangelistic team of Quay Parmer and Earl Ward leads the services with Parmer preaching and Ward singing.
Rev J L Glaze was re appointed pastor of the First Methodist Church in Glen Rose at the Central Texas Methodist Conference annual meeting. He filled the pulpit last Sunday for the final service of the conference year and will begin a second full year next Sunday when the new conference year starts. Glaze said he was happy to be back and looks forward to an excellent church year.
The Shoemake Bros. announce in the Reporter they have re opened the Mobil Service Station on U S Highway 67 East. They will run a fruit and vegetable stand with tables and umbrellas serving iced watermelon by the slice for motorists.
Bill Tiwater announces a work session at Ward Branch Cemetery for Saturday and urges volunteers to bring mowers and tools. Judge and Mrs Cecil Collins of Eastland attended the Collins family reunion this weekend and visited Mr and Mrs Robert Dotson.
Mrs Doyle West and Mrs Ray W Smith travel to Illinois to visit relatives. Mrs Smith visits her son Norman Smith at Bell Isle while Mrs West visits daughter Miss Fandra West in Chicago and stays with her parents.
Somervell County Judge Temple Summers announced that John Floyd Shackelford and Becky Whitt, seniors from Glen Rose, will represent Somervell County at the 4th Annual Texas Youth Conference in Austin August 18 through 21. Shackelford is sponsored by the Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce and is active in NHS, athletics, and FFA. Whitt is sponsored by the Glen Rose Optimist Club, NHS member, and band drum major. The conference will gather over 1,200 youth leaders to study delinquency prevention in Texas communities.
The Somervell County Historical Society holds its regular monthly meeting in the courtroom at 7:30. The program features pictures of former county judges with brief life sketches for each. All members and interested persons are invited.
Members of the local Future Farmers of America Chapter will meet in the Ag room today at 8 00 p m. Advisor W B Cowan stated that nominations for 1966 67 officers will be made and delegates to the FFA State Convention in Austin will be chosen.
Kay Voss and Brenda Evans editors of the local high school annual travel to San Antonio for a workshop at Trinity University. They were accompanied by Mr and Mrs Tom Voss and will return home Friday by bus.
Phil Woodruff owner of Phil's Radio & TV Shop announces a new motor bike rental service on Barnard Street. Two two place bikes will be available for Sunday opening at 1 00 PM for public inspection and afternoon recreation. Benny Ice of Cleburne visited her parents H A Hunter Sunday.
Fort Worth Judge Temple Summers and Mayor Walter Ernst joined Congressman Wright for a luncheon with Stewart Udall at the Fort Worth Club. They discussed a proposal to designate the Paluxy River dinosaur tracks in Somervell County as a national monument or state park. Udall expressed support for protecting the tracks. Summers and Ernst gave Udall and Walter Humphrey hunting licenses.
Rain and thundershowers dropped 2.47 inches on the area, with 1.49 inches Sunday and night, and .98 in mid Monday. Strong winds damaged power lines and poles, knocked out phones, and felled trees, aiding moisture for crops and peanut planting. Year to date rainfall sits at 14.65 inches, well below last year’s level.
