Voters Turn Out Strong in Somervell County

Local Church Hires Full Time Minister

Mr and Mrs Jim Hatcher and their four sons from Wylie have moved into a home bought by Glenview Church of Christ at Mary Lynn and Stadium Drive. Hatcher will serve as full time minister after his August 4 graduation from Preston Road School of Preaching in Dallas. Kenneth Arrington will continue with the church until then.

City County Agree On Law Enforcement Merger

A joint Glen Rose City Council Somervell County Commissioners session set a plan for the county to assume all law enforcement. The city will share deputy salaries up to 1220 monthly and the county seeks two deputies at 500 each. Both entities will fund a night watchman at 1.50 per hour until July, with review by December.

Red Cross First Aid Course Begins June 11

Ken Brown chair of Somervell County Volunteer Ambulance Service invites residents to attend the first Red Cross First Aid class on Tuesday at 7 pm in the high school library. The six week program runs Tuesday and Thursday evenings for three hours per session to reach the 40 hour minimum for operating an emergency ambulance.

Somervell County residents are invited to a county wide barbecue at the rodeo grounds on Saturday June 13 serving begins at 11 a.m. Floyd Reynolds and the Glen Rose Rodeo Association will donate two beeves Joe Huffman of Joe's Drive In will give 100 pounds of pinto beans Jim Teague and Kenneth Hopson will contribute firewood Jackson's Red White Food Store will provide 1 200 paper plates and local groups will donate funds for bread and trimmings Lloyd Locke chairs the event and welcomes donations at Cook Barber Shop for part in the celebration.

County Purchases Ambulance Unit for Emergency Service

Somervell County Commissioners Court awarded Summers Funeral Car Co of Duncanville the low bid among three bids to provide a county ambulance. The fully equipped new vehicle will be delivered within 60 days at a price of 9709 dollars, as announced by County Judge Temple Summers.

Red Cross Swim Lessons Planned at Oakdale Park Pool

Red Cross swimming and life saving lessons will be held at Oakdale Park pool from June 18 through 28 with registration at 9 a.m. on June 17. Classes run June 18–21 and June 24–28 including junior and senior life saving. Lessons are free with a $6.00 misuse charge. A Red Cross drive to fund instructors will be conducted soon. volunteers are sought and can call Mrs. J. M. McCroskey at 897-2566.

Mrs Ken Trimble Named To Board Of Glen Rose ISD

Mrs Kenneth Trimble was named to serve out the unexpired term of the late Glenn Blackie ONeal on the Glen Rose Independent School District Board of Trustees during a regular board session Tuesday night. The term expires in April next year. She had been a candidate in the April election.

Reynolds and Russell Win Commission Spot

Somervell County voters turnout 53 percent to cast 1029 ballots in the Second Democratic Primary. Judge Temple Summers, the sole incumbent in the runoff, lost reelec tion to Jack Cathey by five votes. Ed Merges defeated G. L. Swanson for the 33rd District seat in Somervell County and the district. Floyd Reynolds won County Commissioner Precinct No. 2 easily over Melvin Moore. Percy A. Russell beat Howard Sego by 12 votes for Precinct No. 4. Returns were canvassed Tuesday evening and declared official.

Pruitt Earns Veterinary Degree at Texas A&M

Jeffery J. Pruitt of Glen Rose received an undergraduate degree in veterinary medicine from Texas A&M University. He is the son of J. O. Pruitt Jr. and Mrs. Ruth Pruitt and is married to Cynthia May, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alton May of Glen Rose.
