Congratulations go to Whimp and Pete May for a completely successful Blue Grass Jamboree at Oakdale Park over the holiday weekend. The event drew visitors and set attendance records for the sixth annual gathering.
John Rodman president of the Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce announced that plans are complete for the first Arts and Crafts Festival around the courthouse square on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Twenty three students out of seventy seven completed the Glen Rose High School and Fort Worth Public Schools adult education GED program. Classes met Tuesdays and Thursdays in the high school library. graduates passed five TEA tests in English, math, science, history and literature. Notable graduates listed include Clodell Taylor Jerre Wood Judy Clark Floy Higgins Doris Solomon and others.
Terry Wilson on trumpet and Steve Bonin on piano earned III Ratings at the State Meet in Austin Monday. Wilson and his accompanist Tom Lopez performed as Bonin traveled with his mother and brother Mike and Wilson’s parents observed.
Ed Mayes announced both houses approved creating a second District Court for Somervell and Johnson Counties. The measure awaits Governor Dolph Briscoe's signature and would share jurisdiction with Judge Byron E. Crosier's District Court No. 18 starting Sept. 1. The appointee must win Senate confirmation and face election next year.
Som ervell County resident Linley Wright marks 30 years with Continental while wife Martha plans a wedding anniversary. Wright flies a Boeing 727 from Honolulu to the Micronesian islands via Palau, Guam, and other areas, sharing stories of island customs, culture, and historic sites in Palau Nan Madol and Yap carved sticks.
The Glen Rose six week honor roll list for the past school year excludes fourth grader Rachel Rhodes. The omission creates question about her status while other listed students receive recognition.
The Glen Rose area saw temperatures from 58 to 93 degrees over the past week with no rainfall recorded on the local gauge by Robert A. Mack. Monthly rainfall through Monday totaled 3.13 inches and year to date 18.03 inches, Observer Mack reported.
