About 60 residents gathered at the high school auditorium last Monday to debate a 20 to 25 percent rise in city valuation. Mayor Dr. Roger Marks outlined tax figures, debt, and how a higher valuation could shift the city toward a cash basis and improve maintenance.
The Reporter Glen n Rose marks its 70th year mentioning former editors including Col Carey W Styles. Cleland Woodrow Hurley died May 28 1956 at Glen Rose Hospital after asthma and diabetes. Funeral services were conducted May 29 at the Walnut Springs Methodist Church with Rev. Horace Poteet and Baptist Church pastor assisting. Interment followed at Walnut Springs Cemetery. He was 38 and survived by his wife Eloise Partain Hurley, son C. W. Jr., his parents Ira W. and Lela Belcher Hurley, three sisters and a grandmother. Carter Funeral Home directed arrangements.
Supreme Court Justice Will Wilson resigns from the state’s highest court effective June 1 to run for Texas Attorney General. The former Dallas DA and six year Supreme Court veteran cites duty to the people and says he is answering a challenge to lead law enforcement in Texas.
The candidate asserts readiness to face instability and declares the priority to elect the most qualified official to lead the state. He cites past roles including assistant attorney general, district attorney, and supreme court justice as proof of fitness for the job.
Rainbow News notes strong Sunday attendance at the church. Brother Sander kept his regular appointment and guests joined Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Keller for the day. Calvin Woodard of Fort Worth visited his father, and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Lane return to Glen Rose after service in Europe with the Air Force.
Rev. Dick Baker, pastor of the Georges Creek Baptist Church for eighteen months, resigns effective June. He and Mrs. Baker will depart for Edinburgh Scotland in July for his doctor of philosophy degree work to advance his ministry. The Bakers are natives of Houston and have lived in Cleburne during his tenure.
An audience program lists Eva Blackstock as the leader for a luncheon scheduled to begin at 12 30. The event details include seating timing and a brief introduction by Ms Blackstock.
A native of Somervell County announces his bid for County Sheriff and Tax Assessor Collector. He notes being 80 in July, educated at Glen Rose Public Schools, married with three children, and pledges to uphold laws impartially with God’s help.

The Buck Creek Home Demonstration Club met at Mrs Ophelia Mullins on Friday May 25 with sixteen members present and a new member Mrs Virgins Williamson. Esther Sellers led a book review The Answer is God. The group sold items to members and netted about 13 dollars. Refreshments were served and the next meeting is set for June 8 at Mrs Marequis home.

A community sing airs Friday night at Rock Creek with entertainment and refreshments. Ice cream and cake will be served after the program. all residents are invited to attend.
The Glen Rose homecoming has been scheduled for a fall date after using the third Sunday in June in prior years. The change shifts the traditional timing to autumn with the event expected to feature alumni and community celebration.
