Paluxy Directors Seek Flood Data and Clippings

Somervell County director Earl Jackson urges Paluxy watershed residents to provide newspaper clippings and photographs of past floods from 1908 to present. The Paluxy Water Control District seeks documentary evidence to demonstrate damages and support flood control measures for areas in Somervell Hood and Erath Counties.

Kopperl School Man Is Group President

G. T. Day, superintendent of Kopperl School, was elected president of the Texas Small Schools Association at the annual workshop in Austin. The Texas Small Schools Project, co sponsored by the Texas Education Agency, began six years ago with 18 pilot schools and today includes 104 member schools with about 1100 to 1400 teachers. The group aims to provide educational opportunities in small schools equal to city schools, with definitions expanding from 500 or fewer pupils to include larger elementary junior high enrollments this year.

Paluxy Homecoming Date Set for August 8

The Reporter announces Paluxy annual home coming will be held at the community center on Sunday August 8. All former residents are urged to attend and enjoy activities and renew old acquaintances. Also included is obituary: Erin V idelia Armstrong 81 laid to rest July 28 in Georges Creek Cemetery after services at Crosier Pearlson's Chapel in Cleburne. She died Monday in Cleburne Memorial Hospital and had lived in Somervell County and Joshua. She was born January 17, 1884, married to Frank Armstrong August 4, 1901, and survived by her husband, two sons, two daughters, two brothers, one sister, and 13 grandchildren.

Brother Ed Reynolds buried in Canyon church funeral

Mrs. Zora Engleman traveled from town to Canyon where she attended the funeral of her brother Ed Reynolds 67 a longtime local rancher. The service was held Saturday at 4 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Canyon following a sudden Friday burial.

No Road Closing, Say Commissioners

County Judge Temple Summers announced that public response to closing the Dinosaur Trail road via the Blue Hole on the Paluxy River has been so strong that closure is impossible. Oliver W. Fannin had urged closure, but Summers noted a petition with landowner names is required and a single taxpayer objection would keep the road open. The court consensus is the road should remain open in the public interest.

Rural senior housing loans expand access to home building

Robert A. Wells of the Farmers Home Administration says residents 62 and older in rural areas of 2,500 or less may qualify for 33 year loans at 4 percent to buy an older home or build a new one.
