Glen Rose Church of Christ will open its annual summer gospel meeting Monday July 26 and run through August 1 with Evangelist Woody Holden of Fort Worth preaching. A vacation Bible School will run daily from 9 to 11 a.m. for all ages. Night services begin at 8 p.m. and the public is invited to attend all services.
Mr and Mrs Joe Young announce the opening of a new automatic Maytag laundry in the former Reynolds Feed Store building on Highway 67. The facility features 19 Maytag washing machines, one large item machine, five large dryers, and self service dispensers. A grand opening will be held in the near future.
Parker County Frontier Days sponsored by the Parker County Sheriff's Posse runs Wednesday through Saturday nights July 28 to 31 with over 5800 dollars in prizes. Folk from the Glen Rose area are invited to attend and join in the fun on one or more evenings during the celebration.
Kathy Lane of Irving visits Kay Voss this week for an informal social call. The two neighbors share updates and plan activities for the coming days.
The Heartbeats a string band comprising Larry Witt Tim Stewart Jimmy Gartrell and Bob and Tony Summers will perform at Panther Hall in Fort Worth Friday night and the show will be taped for a TV program Sunday on Station KTVT Channel 11 in Fort Worth.
Mrs. Mattie Pruitt returned to her Fort Worth area home Friday from All Saints Hospital where she had surgery earlier in the week. Friends report she is progressing well and getting along fine.
Weekend visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Way land Adams included relatives from Arlington Grand Prairie Fort Worth Glen Rose and Jam es Carter Tra lissa celebrated her second birthday with home made ice cream and cake. She visited her great grandmother Mrs E T Adams in Glen Rose on her birthday.
Chalk Mountain Masonic Lodge AF AM 894 held a called meeting on July 10 to install officers for the year. Felix Shaefer of Meridian served as installing officer with Sherman Roberson of Hico as installing marshal. Seventy members and visitors attended a barbecue supper afterward.
Lt Gov Preston Smith named Senator J. P. Ward of Meridian to the Texas Legislative Council. Ward a first term senator began service in 1963 and during the 59th Legislature was vice chairman of the Senate Game and Fish Committee and sat on Agriculture and Livestock Banking Counties Cities and Towns Finance Insurance Legislative Congressional and Judicial Districts State Affairs and Water and Conservation committees.
Early A. Teague Jr., maintenance man with Glen Rose water system, earned a state Health Department citation of proficiency. The certificate reflects high regard from state water officials and is issued with the Texas Health, Texas A&M University, and Texas Water and Sewage Works Association authorities. Operators must prove work experience and attendance at utility plant management schools to qualify for certification and pass a written exam.
Mrs Zora Engleman, homemaking teacher at the local high school, will participate in the State In Service Education Conference for Homemaking instructors in Dallas from July 26 to 30. The event theme is Home Economics Dual Purpose and about 1,500 instructors are expected.
Mr and Mrs Fred Langston and family of Cleburne visited the Robert Gaskill home Monday.
Eleven members of Girl Scout Troop 311 of Alvarado with leaders Mr and Mrs Bill McBeth and Mr and Mrs Jimmy Duckett camped overnight near Glen Rose. They attended services at the First Methodist Church and enjoyed swimming and skating at Oakdale Park Saturday night and Sunday morning.
A former Glen Rose resident, Jacqulyn Boyles 34, of Fort Worth, was killed Saturday on Interstate 20 nine miles west of Monroe Louisiana when the campered panel truck she drove lost control and overturned. Her husband and two children, asleep in the back, were not injured. Funeral services were held at Brister Funeral Home Meridian with burial in Nancy Smith Cemetery. Survivors include husband, two children, her parents, a brother, a sister, and a grandmother.
Wasie Early of Cleburne, local driver licensing officer, will not be in Glen Rose Saturday as previously scheduled. The notice came at the start of the week affecting planned inspections or licensing appointments.
The regular monthly musical will be held at Paluxy Saturday night July 24 according to an announcement by W. F. Weaks. Everyone is invited to attend.
Mrs. Tom Morris visited her daughter Maizie in Harris Hospital Fort Worth where she is recovering from surgery. She is expected to return home in a few days.

Seminary president Robert E. Naylor will present degrees and diplomas to 114 graduates at the summer graduation exercises. Enoch C. Brown of Shandon Baptist Church in Columbia S C will deliver the commencement address. Somervell County commissioners met in a called session to finish examining the county tax rendition rolls and voted to set a board of equalization meeting for 9 a.m. August 6.
County Agent Doyle Cooper and four local boys Kenneth Wood Randy Chambers Scott May and Bo Pruitt departed Wednesday afternoon for Latham Springs Camp on the Brazos to attend District 8 4-H summer camp. The event runs through Friday.
Funeral services for Tom P. Caven a retired traffic agent for Cullum and Boren Co in Dallas were held Wednesday July 14 at Sparkman Funeral Chapel. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery with Glen Rose Funeral Home in charge. He died Monday July 12 at Marks English Hospital. He was a longtime Dallas resident and member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include wife Lometa M. Caven Dallas daughter Mrs Albert D. White Glen Rose stepson Jack Stewart Glen Rose sisters Mrs Paul Traylor and Miss Janie Caven Washington DC and four grandchildren. Pallbearers named A A Russell A E Sasse M W Stevenson Walter Malloy Chris Freyer George F. Pierce.
Mrs. J. T. Cheek of Georges Creek celebrated her 95th birthday with a Sunday home dinner attended by numerous relatives and friends from Stephenville Lubbock Slaton Joshua Gallup Nemo Glen Rose Cleburne and nearby areas.
