Police report three recent burglaries netting about 400 dollars in merchandise and cash. Don Hills Variety Store suffered a break in between 8 p m Saturday and 8 a m Sunday with air rifles, pocket knives, lighters taken. entry via rear window. Earlier, Bill Pruitt Feed Mill and Jackson Paint and Body Shop were entered. a sheriff's office window was broken. Christian Church bulbs damaged by air rifles. Obituary notes Miss Oleta Wilson, 51, former Lanham Mill resident, died July 20 1962 in Marks English Hospital. services held July 22. survivors include parents brothers and sisters.

Shooting incident near Community Center injures youth

On Sunday afternoon three boys Leroy Boyd and his brother Calvin along with Warren Underwood were walking home near the Community Center when air rifles were fired at them. Leroy was hit in the eye and admitted to a local hospital then discharged after treatment. The assailants are unknown and the pellets came from the vacant Lilly house next door.

Summers and Brown Depart for National Guard Training

Bob Summers and Scotty Brown left Thursday for Fort Leonard Wood for nine weeks of training with the National Guard. Both are employed by the Texas Highway Department.

Miss Peggy Gean Elmore of Dallas was hospitalized at Marks English Hospital after tripping on the final step of the pool tower at Oakdale Park. No bones were broken according to initial medical reports.

Services Scheduled for Alene Underwood

Alene Underwood age 48 died July 24 at 12 35 pm. A Jameson Nursing Home resident born September 14 1914 in Somervell County she was the daughter of Lee Underwood. Funeral was July 25 at 3 pm at the Church of Christ conducted by Paul Beckworth with interment in Nancy Smith cemetery Bristol Funeral Home directed. Survivors include father Lee Underwood and brothers Roy and Thurman Underwood. Pallbearers were Melvin Gambrell C H Bowers Delbert Armstrong Cyrus Kelley Wallace MacPherson and Lester Trimble.

Sixteen Glen Rose FFA members attended the Ft Worth convention July 18 20. Jerry Clark of Bunz was elected State Association President. Westmoreland Gary received a Santa Fe Award and a vice presidency, Ronnie Shackelford earned a Star Chapter Farmer Award, Jon McConal received an honorary State Farmer Degree, and Glen Rose earned the Gold Emblem Award. The group praised local supporters and leaders for encouragement and attendance.

Advanced degrees were awarded to 253 graduates at Princeton University during the 215th commencement. Jimmy McCroskey son of Mr and Mrs J M McCroskey earned a master’s in Aeronautical Engineering after graduating from Texas University in 1960.
