Moon mission ended with Apollo 11 return splashdown

Astronauts Neil Armstrong Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins completed their historic lunar moon walk and began the 240000 mile journey back to Earth aboard Apollo 11. They are expected to splash down in the Pacific today and be picked up by the aircraft carrier Hornet.

Mrs. Thompson Dies in Car Crash West of Town

Mrs. Royal Thompson sixty seven? wait 47 died instantly near Ice Branch Bridge on U S Highway 67 Friday at about 7 p m. She was alone in a 1963 Chevrolet overturned after skidding on the bridge. Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 30 p m at the Pentecostal Church with Rev B E Moore and Huey P Long officiating. Burial at Ward Branch Cemetery. Survivors: husband Royal Thompson two daughters Mrs Walter Hawkins and Mrs Wendell Phillips a son Elvis Thompson one brother Ted Swartz six grandchildren. Reynolds Funeral Home in charge.

LL All Stars Meet Granbury in Evening Baseball Game

Pasture Fire Burns 3000 Acres Across Bosque County

Firefighters from Glen Rose Walnut Springs Meridian Clifton Granbury and Joshua battled a weekend pasture blaze in the Eulogy area burning about 3000 acres. The fire started when a truck back fired on the Alec Phipps place Thursday and spread to Crystal Springs Ranch now Y-Bar. Fire units aided, repairs funded by a Walnut Springs sale to be held Saturday.

Deadline Nears For Certifying Crop Acreages

Iva Aston of the Somervell County ASCS reminds farm operators to measure and certify acreages of peanuts cotton and feed grains by Aug 1. Failure to file could forfeit benefits and reduce allotments as there is no post certification adjustment. Five Visitors Enjoy Brazos River Canoe Trip

Dale Stafford and son Jimmy with Joe Godridge of Houston and Don Osborn with son Mike of San Angelo visited the Johnny Osborn home. They launched three canoes at Leonard Bend Hood County on Friday then were picked up Sunday near Rainbow area low water bridge. The trip featured good fishing and camping along the river. Mark Osborn, 13, son of Don Osborn, left Midland to attend the Idaho Boy Scout Jamboree which concluded Tuesday.

Rainfall and donations boost Squaw Creek area projects

Rainfall measured 0.78 inches Monday with temperatures dipping to 69 as counties reported up to two inches in places. The Squaw Creek Cemetery Assn raised 32 for a rock and steel pavilion, with contributions invited via Mrs. Bill Flippin and First National Bank in Glen Rose. Local firemen welcomed the moisture after days of blazes.

Former Local Resident Clarence Taylor Dies in California

Relatives in Glen Rose report the death of Clarence Taylor, a former Crossroads resident and son of Gip and Mrs. Taylor of Cottonwood California. He was found dead in bed and is a nephew of Mrs. Sydney Taylor and cousin of Kenneth Taylor of the community.

Somervell County 4-H Riding Club placed third in the District VIII Horse Show drill team event in Belt, earning a berth to the state show at Sweetwater on August 14. Foreign Visitor Is Guests In Home Here

Mr and Mrs Raymond Young and sons of Houston with Miss Kubo Tateyama a 20 year old Japanese visitor stayed Sunday with Mrs Youngs father C T Echols and grandparents Fred Echols. They traveled from Dallas via Love Field to visit for a month and tour local sites including the Dinosaur Valley State Park tracks.

Nemo Community Home Burglary Reported

The Nemo home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Pinson was burgled Sunday while they attended church. A portable TV and portable radio were taken. Entry was through an unlocked rear door. Sheriff Speck Strawn investigated and had no leads yet Tuesday.
