Two inmates escaped from the Somervell County jail Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Johnny Hill, 17, and Robby Stanley, 25, climbed out by sawing a bar from a front window and lowering themselves from a two story wall. They were recaptured after a highway sighting by Hood County Sheriff Bud Williams and Game Warden J C Moore near Johnson County. An Army helicopter tracked Hill until officers reached him. Hills prior offenses include burglary in Hill Variety Store and Wilson Young Humble Station entry. Hill awaits indictment as grand jury has not met. Wayne Beck remains jailed on related charges. No vehicle theft reports were cited.
Sandra and Colleen Rey Reynolds returned home last week from a visit with their grandparents Mr and Mrs Clyde Phipps of Los Angeles California.
Mrs Zora Engleman hosted five grandchildren this week, including Don Miller, Diane Miller, and Deborah Miller of Fort Worth, along with Julie Engleman and Russell Engleman of Austin.
Mr and Mrs L E West spent a few days on the coast and in Mexico. While on the coast they visited the T K Donaldsons at Bishop Texas.

Floyd Swaim pitched the Deputies past Jackson's Superette 7-1 to clinch the first half. The second half began with Jackson's beating Spinks Humble 13-6 while White Auto defeated Deputies 22-17 after a big 5th inning rally.
The schedule lists July 21 matches between Superette and Methodist and Spinks versus White Auto, July 25 Spinks and Deputies and White versus Methodist, July 28 White Auto against Jacksons Superette, Deputies versus Methodist, with August 1 Spinks versus Methodist and Superette versus Deputies. Play-off or make-up games are set for August 4 and 8, and August 11 concludes with play-off games.
The family of Beulah K. Hicks thanks the Glen Rose community for friendship sympathy and help during her time here and after her passing. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation for the kindness and favors shown to their mother.
The Chamber of Commerce met at noon on July 19. Reports from the Highway and Tourist Attraction Committee led by Bob Taylor noted progress in raising funds for city signs. Bill Cowan announced about $30 raised for advertising new industry. Kenneth Miller’s Agricultural Committee plans a Junior Rodeo on August 16. An effort to re open the Palace Theatre was discussed, needing at least 100 three month tickets at 3.60 each.
Tom Moore, 78, died at his son's home last Sunday, July 17. Burial followed at Post Oak Cemetery on Monday, July 18, with Elder A. D. Wood and Rev. Forsythe of Cleburne, a Baptist minister, presiding at the services.
Allen Day, infant son of Mr and Mrs George Day, died Wednesday afternoon shortly after birth in a Brownwood hospital. Services were held Thursday at 10 AM in Brownwood. Survived by parents and two sisters Gloria and Dianne. The family moved to Brownwood from Glen Rose where the father was a former County Attorney.
The 13th Parker County Frontier Days and livestock show are set for July 27 to 30 in Weatherford. Ed Bowden invited Somervell County residents in Glen Rose to attend. A western parade opens the four day event with rodeo performances each night at 8 p.m. The final day features an American Quarter Horse Show beginning at 10 a.m. Tommy Steiner of Austin produces the rodeo.
Mrs. W. C. Perry of Waco announces the approaching wedding of Margie Perry to Kenneth Ray Koechig on August 27 at 5 30 p m in Miller Chapel Baylor University. Koechig is son of Mrs W H Koechig of San Antonio and will teach and coach at Reicher High School. Perry is Dean of Men at Baylor.
The Glen Rose FFA Chapter and Somervell County Livestock Poultry Association sponsor a Junior Rodeo on Saturday night August 6 open to FFA and 4 H Club boys. Kenneth Miller and Jack Bridges Jr lead planning for a one night program with three age groups to maximize participation.
Earl Royal and Ed Wilson representing Glen Rose FFA will travel to Houston in July 2022 for the 33rd annual FFA Convention. They will be led by teacher W B Cowan with five thousand members expected at the air conditioned Houston Coliseum where speakers include John Strohm and Joe Hughes.
Mr and Mrs Walter Maynard and Mrs John Merrill attended the consecration service for the new 100000 dollar Methodist Church at Azle on Sunday Rev G Alfred Brown district superintendent of Ft Worth West delivered the sermon Rev G M Greebon former Glen Rose pastor is Azle pastor The church is described as a beautiful structure open house followed from 2 to 5 PM The visitors praised the attendance loyalty and friendliness of the congregation.
Mrs. Nelda Churchhill 21 and her 3 year old daughter Melissa were seriously injured in a two car collision north of Cleburne Monday afternoon. The crash killed a 20 year old mother Nancy Galier and her 8 month old son Stephen.
The Jess Conways express sincere thanks to everyone for kindness shown during their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Mr and Mrs Jess Conway extend their gratitude to neighbors friends and relatives for warm wishes and gifts.

Bobby Leslie Stanley is held in Sentara County jail with two youths Kenneth Wayne Evans and Jack Blankenship in Johnson County jail after admitting entry to the Wilson and Young Humble Station Tuesday morning July 12. Four tires were recovered and returned. Screwdri vers and a flashlight found in the car. Money and cigarettes from a cigarette machine were taken but not recovered. Evans to be bonded. Stanley released from state pen July 9. Blankenship on a two year probated sentence.
President signs July 14 1960 law extending V A guaranteed home farm and business loans for WWII veterans two more years. Rural area direct loans continue for WWII and Korean vets. Treasury advances set at 150 million yearly for two years.
A CSO meeting is planned for Monday July 25 in the auditorium at 8:00 p m to decide on buying furniture for elementary rooms. Also listed is Little League baseball sessions Mondays and Thursdays.
Across from the post office a rummage sale offers clothing for the entire family and toys. The event is sponsored by the Assembly of God women group.
