Two Escape Jail Here

Two inmates escaped from the Somervell County jail Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. Johnny Hill, 17, and Robby Stanley, 25, climbed out by sawing a bar from a front window and lowering themselves from a two story wall. They were recaptured after a highway sighting by Hood County Sheriff Bud Williams and Game Warden J C Moore near Johnson County. An Army helicopter tracked Hill until officers reached him. Hills prior offenses include burglary in Hill Variety Store and Wilson Young Humble Station entry. Hill awaits indictment as grand jury has not met. Wayne Beck remains jailed on related charges. No vehicle theft reports were cited.

The Chamber of Commerce met at noon on July 19. Reports from the Highway and Tourist Attraction Committee led by Bob Taylor noted progress in raising funds for city signs. Bill Cowan announced about $30 raised for advertising new industry. Kenneth Miller’s Agricultural Committee plans a Junior Rodeo on August 16. An effort to re open the Palace Theatre was discussed, needing at least 100 three month tickets at 3.60 each.

Tom Moore, 78, Dies. Rites Held For Father of William

Tom Moore, 78, died at his son's home last Sunday, July 17. Burial followed at Post Oak Cemetery on Monday, July 18, with Elder A. D. Wood and Rev. Forsythe of Cleburne, a Baptist minister, presiding at the services.

Day Infant Dies at Brownwood Hospital

Allen Day, infant son of Mr and Mrs George Day, died Wednesday afternoon shortly after birth in a Brownwood hospital. Services were held Thursday at 10 AM in Brownwood. Survived by parents and two sisters Gloria and Dianne. The family moved to Brownwood from Glen Rose where the father was a former County Attorney.

Frontier Days at Weatherford Raise countywide excitement

The 13th Parker County Frontier Days and livestock show are set for July 27 to 30 in Weatherford. Ed Bowden invited Somervell County residents in Glen Rose to attend. A western parade opens the four day event with rodeo performances each night at 8 p.m. The final day features an American Quarter Horse Show beginning at 10 a.m. Tommy Steiner of Austin produces the rodeo.

Junior Rodeo Planned by Local FFA and Poultry Group

Bobby Leslie Stanley is held in Sentara County jail with two youths Kenneth Wayne Evans and Jack Blankenship in Johnson County jail after admitting entry to the Wilson and Young Humble Station Tuesday morning July 12. Four tires were recovered and returned. Screwdri vers and a flashlight found in the car. Money and cigarettes from a cigarette machine were taken but not recovered. Evans to be bonded. Stanley released from state pen July 9. Blankenship on a two year probated sentence.
