Aid to Invalids and Incompetents Soon Eligible for Aid

The state through Aid to the Permanently and Totally Disabled will provide small monthly payments to those judged completely helpless with no relatives able to support them. Welfare Supervisor J. W. Keith notes this program, limited to 1.5 million dollars annually by a 1956 constitutional amendment, will require hardship review of a claimant’s relatives and medical status by state physicians and private doctors. The definition hinges on medical helplessness rather than work capacity.

Walnut Springs Homecoming Sunday at City Park

The annual Homecoming of former citizens will be held in Walnut Springs City Park on Sunday, July 21. Sponsored by the Citizens Teachers Association, ice and tea will be provided. Attendees should bring well filled food baskets for the noon meal. Preparations are underway to ensure an enjoyable day.

Welfare assistance program details in Glen Rose area

The note explains that funds will be available starting September 1 1957 with applications open after July 15. Helpless individuals cannot leave home while caregivers may visit the local welfare office to file. A Field Worker will call to take the application. Offices are at Glen Rose Community Center and applications are accepted each Tuesday or by appointment.

Miss Norma Stewart and A 2c Jimmie Hulsey married in a Saturday church ceremony at Church of Christ. Forest Hazelwood of Cleburne performed the rite with attendants including matron Mrs. Jim Flynn and bridesmaids Sandra Giesecke and Shirley West. An a capella choir sang as family witnesses noted the bride in a white alencon lace gown over taffeta.

Chamber of Commerce lauds fire department at meeting

The Chamber of Commerce held a noon meeting with a dinner by the Georges Creek Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Harvey Jackson and Mrs. Orville Ballard urged Civil Defense interest while Ground Observer Corps members outlined recruitment. A second resolution praised the Glen Rose Fire Department and supported a constitutional income tax amendment.

The bride wore a garland of pearls and carried white orchids and carnations. A reception followed at the bride’s parents’ home with cousins Miss Janette Eddy and Brenda Stewart assisting. The bride, in melon shantung suit, and groom will reside in Newburgh New York where he will be stationed at Stuart Air Force Base.

Drowning Tragedy Claims 15-Year-Old Terry Cheek at Brazos River

Glen Rose Fire Department battled to save Terry Cheek 15 of Fort Worth after he disappeared in a Brazos River hole near Nemo while swimming with cousins Dale and Paul Mullens and Herbert Roberts. He drowned despite rescues and a 2 40 p m to 4 15 p m effort. Funeral held in Fort Worth. survivors include his parents and two sisters.

A crowd at Oakdale Pool watched the Parade of Beauty with 41 contestants. Shirlene West won the Senior Division and was named Miss Glen Rose, receiving a $100 prize.

Twenty four boys and seven dads attended the Glen Rose FFA fishing party held near the Garden Spot on the Brazos to honor new freshmen. Bob Morris represents the Glen Rose chapter as voting delegate to the State FFA Convention at Ft Worth this week with John Noack as alternate. The Glen Rose Chapter is represented by a delegation of five boys and an advisor.
