Local effort led by Representative Ed Mayes to establish a new district court serving Somervell and Johnson counties. The plan aims to reduce crowded dockets in the expanding judicial district and improve regional access to justice.
The Somervell County Committee on Aging seeks donations to establish a Senior Service Center off the square in the former White's Auto Store building. Dial-A-Ride volunteers already provide rides to essential locations, and the center aims to serve those over 60 while shaping a positive image of aging for the community.
Revival services are held nightly at the United Pentecostal Church with Evangelist and Mrs. Myron Sims of Olla Louisiana leading. Services begin at 7 30 and continue through January 30. Pastor Rev David Milner says crowds enjoy gospel singing and Bible preaching and invites the public to attend. More details appear in a display ad on another page.
The trial of Larry P. Bone for the murder of Louis Carlton Carroll opens in 18th District Court with Judge Byron Crosier presiding. Jury selection finished, eight prosecution witnesses testifying. Carroll shot in his parked car near the courthouse.
L C Curly Line longtime Abilene business figure and former city councillor dies at his home after recent hospitalization following a swine flu shot. Funeral services held in Abilene with burial there. Line previously partnered with George Snyder in a building materials firm here. In Fort Worth and Irving last Friday, Mrs Farris Gartrell Sonny Boy Mrs Joy Brooks and Mrs Terry Starnes visited Obie Day and Martin Lee.
A report by the Research Committee of the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts identifies taxation the leading problem for private farm and ranch conservation. It notes 29 problem areas with input from 980 district directors across 196 SWCDs and urges more research education and economic incentives to address soil and water issues.
Glen Rose Somervell County Library Board met Monday with chair Mrs. Wylie Lilly. They announced a $10,000 gift from Senator and Mrs. Vernon Lemens and a $3,000 gift from the Somervell County Centennial Association to remodel the old bank building donated by First National Bank. New hours start next Monday: noon to 5 on Mon Wed Thu and 10 to 8 on Saturdays. Circulation rose from 3,042 in 1974 to 5,433 in 1976.
Jack Price, noted crusade singer and minister of music, presents Music With Meaning during the 10 45 a m morning worship at First Baptist Church. Price has recorded 13 albums with two Grammy nominations and has preached and performed worldwide. Rev Bill Schibler invites all to attend.
Nenawakiye Camp Fire Girls top sales in the Tesnaya Council covering Somervell and Johnson Counties. Local group sold 106.38 boxes per girl, leader Joy Murphy reports.
