Robert Mack of the National Weather Service reports 1975 as the driest year since records began eleven years ago with total rainfall at 24.51 inches, far below the 10 year average of 34.96 inches. December rainfall was 1.22 inches and January totals remain dry. The wettest year in the period was 1973 with 46.07 inches.
Elizabeth Hammond of Cottonwood announces her bid for Somervell County Precinct No 1 commissioner, subject to Democratic primaries. She cites deep county roots, a 21 year career as office manager, and aims to engage every voter before the first primary.

E. D. Ed Mayes of Acton announces his candidacy for reelection to a second term as State Representative for the 33rd Legislative District covering Somervell Hood Erath and Johnson Counties. He urges voters to review his voting record and pledges honest, forthright representation and districtwide outreach during his campaigns and terms.
Frank Laramore announces his candidacy for reelection as Somervell County Sheriff and Tax Assessor-Collector in the Democratic Primary. He notes four plus years of experience since May 1972, a steady population growth, and a record of maintaining law and order while serving as sheriff and city marshal.
Two men were jailed here the past week on DWI charges. John M. Kinsner of Koppers arrested New Year’s Eve by State Trooper Roger Hill and released noon next day after posting $500 bond. Kenneth H. Willson of this city arrested 6:55 p.m. New Year’s Day and jailed by Trooper Bob Brock. released Sunday afternoon on $500 bond. Roxie Cheek of Cleburne visited here Saturday with her mother, Nancy Love.
Glen Rose Young Farmers Chapter will meet January 12 at 8 o'clock at the Glen Rose Veterinary Clinic on Highway 67E. Dr. Bob White hosts the gathering and W W Riddle and son Jimmy will lead a horseshoeing demonstration and class.
Charles Sanderson a Paluxy community resident and local businessman announces his candidacy for cinct No 1 in Somervell County. He owns a farm Palace Theatre and a Glen Rose carpet store and says his business experience and local ties equip him to serve as commissioner if elected.
Plans are complete for the First National Bank to host an Open House Saturday afternoon from 2:00 to 5:00 in its new quarters. The 5,000 square foot building features a drive in facility with one active lane and two more to come, four private offices, a cathedral lobby with six teller windows, safety deposit boxes, storage space, and a community display alcove.
