The community extends New Year wishes for 1976 the bicentennial year. It recalls a strong 1975 centennial year with a well attended celebration and broad participation. The note predicts a good year ahead and continued involvement in national bicentennial activities.
Judge Byron Crosier of the 18th District Court announces his bid for re election to a second four year term subject to the 1976 Democratic Primary. He notes four and a half years on the bench with about 4700 cases disposed and invites inquiries from residents of Johnson and Somervell Counties.
Mayor Dan McCarty announced Glen Rose seeks bids to build a modern sewerage disposal plant costing about 250000 dollars. W. F. Soules & Associates of Waco will engineer. Bids open Feb 5 with construction due by Mar 15. EPA covers 75 percent, city 25 percent. EPA grant 197895 dollars funds via 1974 revenue bonds. The racetrack design serves 3500 residents and stops Paluxy River pollution.
Dr. Wilson Ellis Meaders Sr. 69 a Glen Rose resident for 50 years died December 24 after a five year illness. Chiropractor and Snyder Sanitarium owner born Breckenridge October 3 1906 married Jewel Hogan November 1 1931 in Durant Oklahoma. Survivors include wife two sons Dr Wilson E Jr and Dr Robert H a daughter Mrs Ralph Cain four sisters two brothers eight grandchildren. Graveside rites held December 26 Squaw Creek Cemetery with Masonic and church services. Boyd Reynolds Funeral Home in charge.
Observer Robert Mack reports 1.22 inches of rainfall measured on December 24 and 25, praised as the finest Christmas present by many residents. The report follows prior weather notes since the last publication.
A Reporter appeal raised 685 dollars for the volunteer fire department to buy life size dolls for first aid training. Funds beyond the 500 dollar goal will be used to purchase Lexipanant for ambulance and rescue services. Contributions may be sent to Harold Smith or left at the First National Bank. Lucille Adair spent Christmas in Hennessee Oklahoma with Vera Poulter and family. Naomi Burmiester of Temple joined her sister-in-law’s family in Christmas plans.
