Coach Paul Schuelke's Glen Rose Girls win 50 to 34 over Lorena to extend their district lead for a third straight win this season. They stand 13 wins and 2 losses and opened Baylor Tournament action at Waco last night against the Thorndale or Gatesville winner. The Glen Rose Boys fell to Lorena 46 to 24 Tuesday night.
Approximately 49 970 disabled veterans and 26 133 dependents in Texas receive monthly pensions and must report annual income promptly to prevent suspension. VA Dallas notes December tabs will carry income forms, with pension cessation thresholds rising under the new law to 1800 for singles and 3000 with dependents.
Dr. and Mrs. W. E. Meaders and Margaret visited their sons over the holidays. Dr. W. E. Meaders Jr. is stationed in the Air Force at Fort Walton Beach, Florida, while Dr. Bob Meaders serves in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Florida.
The Optimists invite the community to attend a banquet to back youth programs. Attendees will see athletic teams, the band, and the pep squad featured, with proceeds supporting local students and school activities.
At a special assembly, coaches Oran Clary and Paul Schuelke presented jacket awards to 23 football players from the 1960 team and 9 sweaters to the B Team. Eight seniors received jackets, with juniors and sophomores also honored. One freshman earned a jacket, and B team players received sweater awards.

Rev and Mrs Wallace Stringer with Jimmy and Shirley of Ft Worth visited the Stringer home. Velma Thompson and Brenda returned to Ft Stockton after holidays in Rock Creek and Houston. Mr and Mrs Hubert Beck and children and Mr and Mrs Vance Wiggins attended church Sunday night. Several other visitors were present Sunday morning.
Families from Houston Temple Grand Prairie Cleburne Ft Worth Tyler Ft Stockton Waco and Oklahoma stayed with local relatives during Christmas. Notable households included the Roarks Pattons Langstons Becks Edwards Manns Forsythes and Newmans visiting in various homes across the region.
The home of Mr and Mrs A Y Witherspoon on Farm Road 200 Rainbow community burned Friday around 1 am. Glen Rose Volunteer Fire Dept arrived by 1 25 am and found the house already destroyed. The property was owned by R E Drake of Dallas. Convair workers reported the alarm as they returned from work.
Judge John A. Jones met the Somervell County Jury Commission in Glen Rose to select sixteen grand jurors and four 45 person petit juries for the January term of the 18th District Court. This was Judge Jones's last act before retirement. Judge Penn Jackson will become District Judge January 1. Commission members were Phil Woodruff, Lynn O NEal, Kenneth Gibson, Joe Don Echols and John D Wilson.
A Fort Worth D and B office official said 42 Somervell County firms were listed in the January 1961 Reference Book. The annual mail request seeks financial statements from about three million U S concerns nationwide, with 23 Somervell changes last year including 8 additions, 6 deletions, and 9 rating changes.
Mrs Jewel Norman expresses gratitude to friends and relatives for a wonderful Christmas. She notes limited visitation due to being indoors much of the time and thanks everyone for cards letters and gifts with a blessing.

The J. E. Osborn family reunion took place December 26 in Glen Rose. Attendees included sister Mrs. W. S. Glass and brothers Charlie Osborn of California and Jim Osborn of Fort Worth, with numerous Osborn relatives and spouses from nearby towns and states.

Mrs Jewel Norman spent five days at home with her family and friends during the Christmas weekend and returned to the Sanatorium last Tuesday. Mr Jim Turner, Mrs Turner, Mr George Norman and Mrs Norman drove her back.
Willie Royalty commander of Hood County Barracks 2008 invites World War I veterans and their wives to a gathering at the American Legion Hall in Granbury on Tuesday January 10 at 7 30 p m.
Mr and Mrs A Y Witherspoon whose Rainbow home burned last week intend to rebuild on the same location. All clothing and household furnishings were burned. Gifts or donations may be left at the home of Mrs Raymond Hulsey at Rainbow.
Glen Rose Schools share a reader series by J. M. McCroskey aiming to inform residents about district finances legislation and programs. The columnist invites questions and promises future pieces on district finances future plans and academic programs.
