Pruitt Receives Pat Wachsman Award At Glen Rose Banquet

Jesse Pruitt co captain of Glen Rose Tiger football and basketball teams received the Pat Wachsman Award at the All-Sports Banquet. He is the eleventh winner and plans an athletic scholarship to Texas Tech after completing pre enrollment papers. Wayne Bridewell won the Optimist Youth Award during the program. The event honored Glen Rose High School athletes with about 200 attendees.

Death of J. D. Armstrong in Cleburne at 62

J D Armstrong a native of Ft Spunky and former Glen Rose grocer died in a Cleburne hospital Sunday at age 62. Raised in Georges Creek he was married to Ophelia Masters in 1919 and operated groceries in Godley and Glen Rose before ranching in Johnson Somervell and Hood counties. Services were held Tuesday at Crosier-Pearson Chapel and burial was in Georges Creek Cemetery. He leaves his wife a son J D Armstrong Jr of Corpus Christi a daughter Mrs. William T Padon of Los Altos five grandchildren and one sister Mrs W L Carrell of Godley.

Glen Rose Students Named to Distinguished Students List

Two Glen Rose students, Laura Sego and Tommy Gosdin, earned spots on Tarleton College’s Distinguished Students list for fall semester 1962-63. Sego, a sophomore, majors in elementary education, while Gosdin, a freshman, majors in agricultural engineering.

The Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce elected three new directors for three year terms: Joe Don Echols R D English and C M Speck Strawn. Outgoing directors Jack Bridges Jr Wm B Cowan Jr and C D Pete Hatler are thanked for their service. A March 5 meeting at 7 00 AM Glen Rose Coffee Shop will elect a President Vice President and Secretary Treasurer. Mr and Mrs Allen Smith have moved to Paige Arizona.

Wayne Brown walks 50 miles to Glen Rose for Valentine's Day cake

Wayne Brown, WRAP television cameraman, traveled from Fort Worth to Glen Rose on February 14 delivering a 50 mile walk in 18 hours. He started with two teammates who stopped along the way while he continued. He was greeted by the mayor and the Glen Rose Tiger Band and profiled on Channel 5.

The City of Glen Rose will elect a mayor and two councilmen on Tuesday, April 2. Terms expiring are Mayor Charles Gibbs and councilmen L. C. Line and Kenneth Gibson. Filing deadline is March 2. candidates must file with the City Secretary at City Hall by or before March 2.

Mr and Mrs George Dempsey report son SP5 Jerry Dempsey stationed in Wertheim Germany with Hg Det of 66 ord Bn. His wife Mrs Jerry Dempsey and their three children Jerry Jr Keith and Michelle arrived aboard USNS Buckner from New York Feb 1 1963 landing Feb 11 in Bermahaven Germany. They will stay in Germany for two years after a prior Army tour from 1957 to 1959.
