Bobby Conrad to Speak at Glen Lake Optimist Banquet

Bobby Joe Conrad famed St. Louis Cardinals back and kicker will headline the Optimist All-Sports Banquet at Glen Lake Methodist Camp next Tuesday February 19. The event honors Glen Rose High School athletes including football and girls district champion basketball teams with Herman Layne as master of ceremonies and M G McConal delivering welcomes.

Two From Glen Rose on Tarleton Honor Roll

Glen Rose students Tommy Gosdin a freshman agricultural engineering major and Laura Sego a sophomore elementary education major are named to Tarleton State College’s A Honor Roll for the first semester of 1962 63. The list honors students with all A grades in credit subjects and at least 15 credit hours completed.

4-H Club Council Holds February Meeting in Court House

On February 7 the 4-H Club Council met in the court house. Officers were elected for the coming term with the chairman leading the session.

Glen Rose Girls Clinch District 14-A Title

The Glen Rose girls basketball team clinched the district championship for the third straight year under coach Paul Schuelke. They beat Joshua 44 25 to end the season, set for bi district play against either Midlothian or De Soto on March 4 or 5, with additional tuneup games lined up.

Samuel A Jackson 51 Dies at Veterans Hospital

Samuel Albert Jackson born May 10 1911 in Newcastle Texas died February 13 at Veterans Hospital. He lived in Glen Rose since 1941 with Frankie Phillips his wife since 1950. Survivors include three children Steven Marsha and S A and five brothers. Funeral services held at Glen Rose Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Nancy Smith Cemetery.

Former resident John Henry Cheek dies in Fort Worth

John Henry Cheek, a former Georges Creek resident, died in Fort Worth last week. Services were held Friday in Cleburne with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of Fort Worth, two sons Dean and Charles Cheek of Fort Worth, two daughters Johnny Fay Huggins and Vera Mae Huggins of Fort Worth, four brothers Otto Georges Creek Claude Cleburne Arlie Koppers Gradie Dallas, and four sisters Cordie Armstrong Nemo Annie Howeth Fort Worth Grady Orr Nellie Styron Cleburne.

Twenty six members of the Rose FFA Chapter toured the San Antonio Livestock Show last weekend February 9 and 10. They also visited the City of San Antonio and Breckenridge Park during the trip.

Bridal Shower for Gene Bass Held at Home

A bridal shower honoring Mr and Mrs Gene Bass was held Friday February 8 at the home of Mrs Kenneth Taylor. The event featured a heart theme with Italian imported white cut work tablecloths. Scout Week Observed in Glen Rose 53rd Anniversary

Scout Week marking the 53rd anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America is observed in Glen Rose this week with a focus on fitness activities. The "Fit for Tomorrow" program is highlighted and Scout Sabbath Sunday runs from Friday February 15 to Sunday February 17 with Scouts urged to attend church in uniform and may receive faith awards.

Somervell Historical Committee Seeks Citizen Help

The Somervell County Historical Committee met January 26 to plan work for the year and to coordinate with the Texas State Historical Survey. They marked 623 structures in 135 counties and consider a county library museum combo to boost preservation. E. G. Connally chairs. next meeting February 23 at 10 a.m. at the courthouse.

4-H clothing leaders complete Stephenville sewing course

4-H leaders Mrs Gay Moore Mrs Norma Wood and HD agent Mrs Barbara Gill returned from a two day training course titled Getting the Most out of Your Sewing Machine. The program held in Stephenville taught machine care adjustments fabric handling attachments and teaching methods for 4-H girls.

Weight Control program to visit HD Clubs in February

The HD agent will meet Buck Creek on Feb 19 Georges Creek on Feb 28 Glen Rose on Feb 15 Rainbow on Feb 22 and Somervell Communities on Feb 19 for a Weight Control program. A leader training on Stain Removal will be Feb 26 at 1 30 pm for Home Demonstration Clothing leaders. A 4 H Foods Leader training at Mrs Jessie Reynolds home on Feb 21 at 1 30 pm led by Mrs Gill. all 4 H Foods leaders urged to attend.

Methodist Church Adopts Lord's Acre Program in Glen Rose

The First Methodist Church of Glen Rose adopted the Lord's Acre Lord's Hour program to fund church improvements. The plan invites parishioners to donate portions of wages or sales of crops and crafts such as cotton, livestock, poultry, and crafts. Rev. Bruce Baker praised the project for growth and spiritual enrichment.

Glen Rose boxers win second in Cleburne tournament

In Cleburne last weekend Glen Rose boxers claimed two championships and two runners up from eleven entrants. David Barclay won the novice St heavywet title and Jack Powell of Granbury, representing Glen Rose, captured the novice heavyweight title. Billy Bamber and Roger Freeman finished as runners-up in their classes. The team standings placed Brewer, Glen Rose, Lena Pope Home, Arlington, Elks Club, Clebur ne, Weatherford and Sheriff's Club. Glen Rose had the fewest entrants and clinched the team crown after a single fight. They will compete at the San Saba tournament on February 23.
