Sheriff Paul Bone reported that burglaries from July 1962 at several businesses and a school were solved. Loot recovered included pocket knives air rifles flashlights and other items. Juvenile suspects confessed to the incidents at the high school and Don Hills store.
About 150 people attended the 4-H Awards Banquet on January 24. 1962 winners across 4-H and FFA clubs were honored including Greg Marsh Patricia Hawkins and other club members. Adult leaders received service certificates. Greg Marsh attended the Recognition Banquet in Ft Worth with Gov Connally Amon Carter Jr. and other officials.
Claude W. Ramsey 55 died January 29 in White Settlement Hospital Fort Worth. Born October 16, 1907 in Erath County he lived in Somervell County before moving to Fort Worth. Survived by Ruth Taylor wife two daughters Shirley and Pauline two sons Fred Ramsey one son in Virginia two brothers J. E. Ramsey Doyle Ramsey two sisters and interment at Glen Rose Cemetery.
Mrs. Winnie Merrill thanks supporters after 20 years serving as county treasurer. She recalls tough times and updates on county finances, noting deposits at First National Bank in Glen Rose and bonds on January 1, 1943 and 1963.
The statement notes there are no warrants currently and the indebtedness totals 16000 dollars. It closes with thanks for support over the years and a wish for continued loyalty to Mrs. Whitt.
Jim L. Curtis, 57, died January 29 1963 at Marks-English Hospital in Glen Rose. He lived in Glen Rose for years, born January 15 1906 in Weatherford. Survived by wife Imogene Lail and four brothers. Funeral January 31 at First Baptist Church Weatherford. burial Curtis Cemetery Weatherford. Bristol Funeral Home Meridian oversaw arrangements. Pallbearers named Curtis relatives and friends.
State FFA President Jerry Clark and State Vice-President Gary Westmoreland visited the freshman Vocational Agriculture class Monday. Clark, an ordained Baptist minister, spoke briefly about FFA work and its goals for students.
The annual questionnaire was mailed to all recipients on the pension rolls who receive November 1962 checks and arrived by December 1. Respondents have until January 31, 1963 to complete and return the forms to the designated VA office. If returned incomplete, action will follow.
Ann Portwood Club Reporter highlights Susie Miller as Rainbow HDC Woman of the Month a lifelong Sowervell County resident wife of Jack Miller and mother of five of eight children with 24 grandchildren and 17 great grandparents.
Local reports say Somervell County is producing sizable bobcats with several captured or killed. Jacob McFall trapped a large bobcat after it damaged a dozen chickens. Mrs. Ben Moss killed two big cats, one weighing about 30 pounds. A separate note mentions pension payments will be suspended.
Wanda Brown married Russell Wayne Hawkins on January 26 1963 at 7 00 PM in Rainbow Baptist Church with Rev Wayne L Buttcher officiating. The ceremony featured white gladioli and mums, music by Mrs Travis Branham and Mrs Wayne L Buttcher, and a white chantilly lace gown.
County Agent Doyle Cooper joined Greg at the event. Gary Marks won with his white Wyandotte Cockerel and took second in highen at the Fat Stock Show. G. C. Gibbs Jr. acquired Plymouth Rocks from John Garrett, a Louisiana representative, who placed first in the show.
The Glen Rose girls aim for a conference clinch with one more win over Joshua after a 52 to 42 victory over Clifton and 35 to 20 over Itasca. Boys remain winless in district play, edged 48 to 47 by Itasca as Alvarado cinched the district title with a 52 to 35 win over Glen Rose.
J. M. Mc Croskey announces third six weeks honor rolls. Students across grades First through Senior. Eligibility requires no grade below 90. Names include Barry Miller, Diane Baker, Carolyn Brown, Thomas O’Neal, Lisa Gibson, Anna Lou Wood, Sheila Armstrong among many others.

Alton Russell Taylor 65 was found dead in his motel room Wednesday after being last seen Tuesday. He had lived in the area about five years, moving from Arkansas. Justice of Peace C. M. Tidwell ruled death was related to personal safety. Survived by a daughter in Magnolia Arkansas.
Tom Pugh died at the Veterans Hospital in Dallas on Thursday. A full obituary will be published next week.

Len Community 4 H Club meets Thursday at the court house. Wesleyan Service Guild gathers with Mrs Hale Riddle on Tuesday Feb 5 at 7 30. Optimist Club sponsors a donkey basketball game Tuesday night Feb 12 at 7 30 in Leach Gymnasium. Somervell County Program Building Committee meets Monday Feb 4 at 7 pm in the court room. Everyone invited.
