In Somervell County political life a new filing begins as Publisher Jack McCarty announces his candidacy for County Judge. He is first to file with the Democratic Executive Committee, resigning as E C C chair, as Temple Summers is named to serve the unexpired term through next year. Summers pledges the same effort he made as mayor and county judge. May 6 Democratic primary will choose county treasurer clerk precincts 2 and 4 commissioners and other district offices including the 33rd District Representative and the 249th District Court judge. Ed Mayes of Acton seeks reelection as 33rd District Representative. Kit Cooke, newly created district judge, is expected to run. Congressman Bob Poage has announced he will seek reelection.
