Baptist Church Names New Pastor to Lead First Baptist
Rev. Sam H. Jones and his wife and two young sons will move into the parsonage and Jones will assume duties as pastor of the First Baptist Church Monday. Interim pastor Rev. Jack Mills preaches his final sermon Sunday night. Jones, born in Altus Oklahoma June 22 1939, has pastored several Texas towns and conducted more than 100 revivals since 1957. U.S. Weather Bureau gauge reports total precipitation 25.21 inches locally with temperatures from 62 to 101 degrees over the past week.

Walnut Springs School to Open for Fall Semester
D. E. Edwards announces Walnut Springs will begin classes Monday August 25 with a full schedule. Registration is set for Friday August 22 at 9 a.m. The day starts at 8 20 a.m. and ends at 3 40 p.m. Preschool classes run by Mrs Laverne Moyer have 14 pupils this term.

Fort Worth Man Admits Burglary in Station Theft
Fort Worth resident Michael R. Riddle 21 confessed to burglarizing Homer Bowers Station on Highway 144 on June 19. He named accomplices Johnny Rainwater 26 and David Cunningham 28. Riddle said the trio also robbed businesses in Strawn Weatherford Stephenville and Comanche and will stand trial in all but Comanche before transfer to Somervell County.

Mineral Wells Youth Buried At Post Oak
Graveside rites were held for Jerald Gordon ten who died after a late Sunday accident in Mineral Wells. His sister Genette nine and both parents were injured. Genette underwent brain surgery in Fort Worth and the mother remains hospitalized. The family's car collided with another vehicle while returning from Possum Kingdom Lake.

Weather Balloon Found Near Here
A radio transmitting weather balloon found on the M. S. Matt Teague place in the Oden Chapel community Saturday had a short life aloft. The balloon, equipped with transistorized radio gear, was launched by the U.S. Weather Bureau in Fort Worth the day before, according to G. C. Gibbs Jr., postmaster.

Old Settlers Reunion Draws 100 plus At Oakdale Park
More than 100 old-timers gathered for the first Old Settlers Reunion at Oakdale Park hosted by park management and the Somervell County Historical Society. Sam P. Shelton of Longview was named oldest settler at 89, while Lloyd Whittsitt of Dallas was the oldest returning tourist at 88. awards honored longest distance traveled, most descendants, and most generations present. The group voted to meet again next year on Saturday August 1.
