Glen Rose FFA Team Heads to National Contests in Oklahoma City

The Glen Rose FFA Chapter pasture and range judging team, coached by W. B. Cowan Jr, earned a national berth by finishing second at Tarleton State College Stephenville in the state contest. Team members are Carl Ernst Don Jones Bob Miller Hank Pruitt with Bob White as alternate. Carl Ernst led with seventh in a 100 contender field. The land judging team placed 22nd in state. Funds for the trip were raised by local supporters including Walter Ernst and Glen Rose Reporter.

LeBoeufs Move Here To Join Local Builders Business

Mr and Mrs Luba Le Boeuf moved from Midland to join Mr and Mrs Arnold Whitworth in L W Builders and Supply. Mrs LeBoeuf and Mrs Whitworth are Ora Lee and Opal Lawrence daughters of H E Lawrence. They invite the public to visit the new business location.

Martin Park Named Republican Head

Martin A. Park of this community was appointed Chairman of the Republican Party in Somervell County. He announced the county primary election and county precinct convention will be held at his home east of Glen Rose on Highway 144 May 7.

Glen Rose Chamber Sees Four New Members In Drive

Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce secretary treasurer Mrs. A A Abernathy said four additional members joined and paid dues this week. New members are Glen Lake Methodist Camp L W Builders Supply F B Bo Gibbs and Bill Pruitt. Dues are 20 for businesses and 10 for individuals.

County Finances Best In History Report Shows

Somervell County reports show an all time high bank balance as of March 31 with starting funds of 20 380 15 receipts of 44 168 29 and disbursements 25 474 29 leaving 39 074 15. Tax office receipts total 16 031 78 from April 1 to 18 bring the balance to 50 489 69 after disbursements 4 616 24. Precinct expenditures for the quarter are listed for four precincts.

Junior High and Girls Track Meet Opens Today at Local Track

The second annual Junior High Track Meet and first Girls High School meet begin at 2 p.m. at the local track. Finals set for 7 p.m. Eight junior high teams and six high school girls teams have entered, officials said Tuesday.

Starnes Buy Aston Station and Grocery

Announcement made Tuesday reports the sale of Aston Grocery and Station from Doyle Aston to Mr and Mrs Logan Starnes effective this week. The Aston home also included. The Starnes expect to move to town soon while the Astons move to the Joe English home they purchased and remodeling.

Glen Rose Girls Track Qualify For Regional Meet

Eight Glen Rose High School girls qualified for the regional track meet in Denton after strong district showings. Mary Ann Strawn led with first in the 60 yard dash and second in the 100 yard dash and discus, along with a first in the 440 yard relay. Deb bie Young earned a third in the 80 meter hurdles, while English and teammates helped secure relay placements and other finalists. Additional team members include Vicki Williams Melba Beck Glenda caper and Jan Shackel.

UIL Winners Parker And McClure Shine At Region II-A

Mary Parker and Lana McClure won first places at the Region II-A Interscholastic League literary contest held at North Texas State University in Denton. Parker took number sense and McClure won persuasive speaking as about 1,000 students from three regions competed. They advance to the State Championship in Austin May 5-6.

Chairmen Named For CC Beautification Plan

Plans were formulated Tuesday for a two year beautification program to be launched by the Chamber of Commerce next week. Six committees are formed with chairs including Mrs Paul Hancock Jr for Projects and Mrs Kenneth Taylor for the same group. Others named are Mrs Alton May City Clean Up chair, Mrs Herman Layne County Clean Up chair, Mrs G C Gibbs Jr Patriotic chair, and Mrs Eugene Connally Beautification chair.
