White Is New Proxy Of Livestock Association
In Somerville County Livestock Association meeting held last Thursday night Sam White was elected to head the organization and $600 was approved to enlarge and improve the show buildings. Logan Starnes as vice president and Gene Connally as secretary treasurer were named. A committee to oversee the spending includes Billy Miller Lefty ONeal and Glen Elliott. Buzz Evans was chosen next year’s Junior Livestock Show chairman with Lefty ONeal as assistant. Division chairmen for next year were named for each show segment including several named individuals for different cattle, poultry, sheep, swine and related committees.

Local Students Shine at Waco Regional Science Fair
Two Glen Rose High School students placed in the Baylor University Regional Science Fair in Waco. Royce Nickell earned a senior applied physics award for a Spectroscope, Mark Eakin's Telescope won junior miscellaneous, and John Parker won best junior high entry receiving a Special U. S. Army Award. Kenneth Hulsey earned a Special Army ROTC Award. Twenty eight regional entries from local schools participated, with all winners attending awards at Waco Hall on Baylor campus.

Leldon Taylor Wins Optimist Speech Contest
Leldon Taylor son of Mr and Mrs Bob Taylor won the Optimist Club Oratorical Contest held at the high school auditorium last Saturday night. He will compete April 10 in the district contest at Lone Star Gas Building Fort Worth with finals in New Orleans June 20 24 for a $1000 college scholarship. Three runners up each receive a $500 scholarship. Thomas Hatley was second in the local contest. Certificates went to Mike Schuelke and Terry Starnes.

In Glen Rose ISD 156 voters cast ballots in a trustee election. John W Shackelford Lewis Gresham Eugene Ratliff and Leroy Gibson were elected to vacancies from seven candidates and sworn in at a board meeting held Tuesday night. Texas highway crew destroys den of rattlesnakes
A Texas Highway Department crew working from the local office along U.S. Highway 67 near Chalk Mountain uncovered a rattlesnake den in the bur row ditch. The team, including Virgil Aiey Virgil Miller Gene Linch and Warren Kiddy, killed about 20 snakes of various sizes.
