Elections Set For Saturday And Tuesday In Glen Rose

Glen Rose voters head to the high school library Saturday April 4 to elect three trustees on the school board. Incumbents Maurice Marsh Dr Roger E Marks and Billy C Miller seek reelection while James Sparks and John L Sullivan Jr enter for first terms. County school board incumbents Gilbert H Modawell and Bert Willey are unopposed. City voters return Tuesday to choose three councilmen with incumbents Jack Bridges Jr Joe Den Echols and Paul Hancock Jr unopposed. Polls open 8 am to 7 pm.

12 Year Old Sentenced to Reform School in Private Hearing

A 12 year old Denver City youth was declared a juvenile delinquent in a private court hearing and sentenced to the State School for Boys at Gatesville. District Judge Penn Jackson and County Judge Temple Summers presided over the ruling.

Junior High and Freshman Track Meet Set for Friday

Coach Paul Schuelke announced the Junior High District and freshman track meet will be held here Friday April 10 starting at 1 30 p m. Six schools Clifton Itasca Whitney Alvarado Joshua and Glen Rose will participate with admission 25 and 50 cents.

Funeral Rites Set For Ross Leach

Funeral services for Ross Calvert Leach 83 longtime Glen Rose school superintendent are set for 2 30 p m today at First Baptist Church Glen Rose He died Wednesday April 1 in a local hospital after a short illness Born March 21 1881 at Allen Collin County he came to Glen Rose in 1918 and retired in 1949 He and his wives and seven survivors are listed with interment in Squaw Creek Cemetery

Coll Fulfer retires after 20 years with Glen Rose

Coll Fulfer resigns after twenty years with the City of Glen Rose. Mayor Charles Gibbs awarded a one hundred dollar check and praised his service to the maintenance crew. Early Teague Jr. was hired to replace Fulfer and is now on the job. Dr and Mrs W E Meaders spent Easter holidays in New York visiting their son and family.

Kin of Local Woman Escapes Alaska Quake

Mrs. O. L. Howard of this city learns that her daughter and husband, Gene Belcate, and three daughters of Anchorage survived the Alaska earthquake last week. The Belcate home suffered damage but the family escaped injury.

Masonic Workshop Slated in Godley Central Texas

A Masonic Workshop for officers and members from eight Central Texas lodges will be held at the Masonic Hall in Godley at 7 30 p m on April 13. Guests include officers from Granbury Glen Rose Lipan Cleburne Joshua Rio Vista Burleson and Godley. S Steed of Joshua will conduct and chairs the four county workshop area. The session will address common lodge problems and operations.

County HD Council Holds Recent Meet

The Somervell County Home Demonstration Club Council met March 18 with twenty members and nine visitors. Reports covered minutes treasury THDA funds and club plans including Oakdale Park booths May 16 and Civil Defense training April 27 to May 1 at the high school. New delegates were named Neva Lane Willie Flippin Ida Witt with Jewell Norton as alternate. Serpha Riddle becomes county THDA chairman.

Jack W. Bridges Sr. of Glen Rose bought 11 registered Angus cows and two Aberdeen Angus bulls from C. E. Howell of Mexia. Mrs. Emma Ogle of Dallas and Mrs. Roy Edwards of Oklahoma City visited here with Mrs. Neva Lane.

New Parcel Postage Rates Now In Effect

Postmaster G C Gibbs Jr reminds Glen Rose residents the ICC approved parcel post rate hike, averaging 13.1 percent and raising six pound local parcels to 37 cents. Catalog rates up about 13 percent may add $2.4 million annually. air and international parcel post unchanged.

Glen Rose Man Killed in Cross Plains Car Wreck

A Glen Rose man, Cecil Gale White, 22, died when his 1964 Chevrolet Impala veered and rolled near Cross Plains on FM 880. Four other occupants were injured lightly. White, son-in-law of Glen Rose residents, worked recently in the Glen Rose Reporter office. Funeral held at Cross Plains First Methodist Church. burial in Cross Plains Cemetery. Survivors include wife Kay and two sons, John Preston and Billy Charles, plus parents and siblings.

Glen Rose Seniors Honored on Southern Pilgrimage

Twenty members of the Glen Rose High School senior class visited Vicksburg Natchez Baton Rouge New Orleans and Lafayette on a week long trip. They received keys to Vicksburg and Natchez honorary citizenship in Natchez and toured the French Quarter.
