Grand Jury Ends Voter Irregularities Probe

Gregg County Dist. Atty. Odis Hill says the five day grand jury investigation into June 5 run off voter irregularities produced no indictments. About 133 witnesses were questioned. only two from outside Gregg County testified. The panel reported thorough work and did not expect to reconvene before the new grand jury swears in on Sept. 7.

McFarland rites set Thursday

Funeral services for Miss Hattie Grace McFarland 95 of Gladewater are scheduled for noon Thursday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home chapel. Burial follows at Union Grove Cemetery. She died August 31 in a nursing home after a long illness. She was born in Homer Louisiana and was a Baptist. She is survived by two friends in Gladewater and several nieces and nephews.

Albert Foshee dies at 84 with services Thursday

Albert Martin Foshee 84 of Gladewater dies after a long illness at a local hospital. Services set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home with the Quitman and Center Sts. Church of Christ minister officiating. Burial in Rosedale. Survived by widow Gladys, two daughters Mary Mead of Tulsa and Francis Beavers of Longview, three sons Don Foshee of Tyler Bob Foshee and Jack Foshee of Nacogdoches, a brother Leon Foshee of Sherman, 12 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Grandsons will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers listed.

Hayhurst rites set for Mrs Alvis Letta Hayhurst

Funeral services for Mrs Alvis Letta Hayhurst of W Quitman Street will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Sweetwater with interment at Maryneal Cemetery. She died after a lengthy illness at a local hospital. She was 65 and a Maryneal native. Survived by her husband Altus Coy Hayhurst and six sisters in Texas and California.

Woman shoots husband in Gladewater during domestic dispute

Gladewater man Robert Samuel Hayes, 47, is in critical condition at a Tyler hospital after his wife Billie shot him with a 410 shotgun around 2 15 p m Monday. Investigators say Hayes fired at his wife as she fled into the house, and she returned fire through a window. No charges filed. self defense anticipated. The couple owned a club on Highway 80.

Humongous Labor Day Street Dance Aids MDA Drive

MDA in Gladewater plans a Labor Day Weekend street dance at the Rodeo Headquarters on Main and Quitman Streets. Live music starts 9 p.m. Sunday with two Ambassador College bands. Circle K Club will bus 200 to 300 people to join the fund raising. Donations and refreshments will be provided as part of the telethon effort headed by Jerry Lewis.

City water plant seeks fence after burglary theft

Buddy Perryman, City Water superintendent, reports a break in at the Roden Lane sewerage plant. A $220 air conditioner and $250 electric compressor were stolen, with two space heaters and an alarm clock missing. he proposes a 10 foot fence with electric charge to deter thieves.
