Faulder Found Guilty of Capital Murder in 1975 Slaying

Joseph Stanley Faulder, 40, was found guilty of capital murder for the July 8, 1975 death of Mrs. Inez Phillips. An eight to four jury deliberated 90 minutes before delivering the verdict. jurors were polled and affirmed it. The trial recessed to resume Thursday to set punishment.

Weldon Red Rock Paving Ends 16 Street Project

The Weldon and Red Rock communities completed 16 street resurfacing under the Community Development Block Grant. A $150,000 HUD grant funded the work totaling $105,717.45 with 3.5 miles paved and sewer lines relocated. City Manager Tony N Williams praised the cooperation with Gregg County Pet and Leta Camp.

Halloween Carnival at Pacific Street Ball Park

The Chamber of Commerce hosts a Saturday night Halloween Carnival from 7 to 10 pm with a spook house fortune tellers games rides and cake walks. Advance tickets are 25 cents children and four bits adults 50 cents and 75 cents at the gate. Lawsuit Names Mayor and Wife in Defamation Case

Union Grove resident James Skinner filed on Oct. 24 a defamation suit seeking 800000 dollars in damages against Mayor and Mrs. James Goggans. The Tyler attorney Larry R. Daves represents Skinner, alleging defamatory and slanderous language that has exposed the plaintiff to public ridicule and harmed his reputation for honesty.

City named in lawsuit in Gregg County case

The City of Gladewater has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed by Mary Stanley of Big Sandy in the 188th District Court. The suit seeks 60,000 dollars plus costs for damages from a September collision involving Judy R. Stanley and a city trash truck driven by J. K. Fuller. The filing notes injuries to Judy R. Stanley and damage to the Opel car, with allegations of negligence and malice.

Funeral services held for Mrs Vesta Hawkins 61

Funeral services for Mrs Vesta Hawkins 61 were conducted Monday at 3 in Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Hays Reneau officiating. Interment followed at Rosedale Cemetery. Mrs Hawkins of 1103 Mary Drive died Sunday at 2 10 a m in a local hospital after an extended illness. A Gladewater resident from Gregg county she was a housewife and member of the North Main and Gay Church of Christ. Survivors include one son Ted Hawkins two daughters Frances Peale Bay City and Jeanette Sharp Bay City five siblings and eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers were David Moore James Mahon Cleo Marlowe Speedy Markham D L Morgan Dr Harold McDowell and Dewey Gray.
