Chamber backs petition to limit off premises alcohol sales
The Gladewater Chamber of Commerce endorsed a petition to restrict alcohol consumption to off premises use. The vote passed with no dissent after discussion. Also noted were facility roof damage from recent rains and civic events including Student Government Day and an arts festival set for Sept. 28 and 29 at Broadway School.

Bears Move to 14 AA in UIL Realignment
The University Interscholastic League realigns Texas high school districts for two years. Gladewater will compete in District 14-AA with Lin Dale Mineola West Rusk Troup White Oak and Whitehouse. White Oak shifts to AA and Gladewater faces a district with 11 teams in 9 AAA next year. Added to 9 AAA are Palestine Crockett and Athens.

Ten year old Richard Johnson of Gladewater won the Dallas district title in his age group for the 1973 Punt Pass and Kick contest co sponsored by the NFL and Ford Dealers of America. District winners advance to area and divisional rounds leading to 12 national finalists at the Super Bowl halftime in Houston on January 13 1974 where winners are honored in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Canton Ohio.

UF Kickoff Sets Goal For 1973 United Fund Drive
Tim Bland reports about 10 percent of the $18 000 goal has been pledged as the United Fund drive begins. A two week intensive campaign follows the kickoff breakfast attended by directors and division heads. The 1973 goal is $500 higher than last year with progress tracked by a lawn sign at city hall designed by Gladewater High School.
