The board of trustees canceled the annual school Halloween Carnival at Bear Stadium citing a lack of a suitable date. Halloween clashes with the Gladewater West Rusk Homecoming football game this year, and crowded conditions with no Wednesday eve ning activities or weeknight scheduling fit concerns. The event has been a long running tradition for 15 to 20 years with cake walks fortune tellers games and side shows.

Beulah Pynes Rites Held After Long Illness
Mrs. Beulah Mae Pynes 89 died Tuesday morning in a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services set for 3 p.m. Thursday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wagstaff, Rev. Grimes and James Trigg officiating. Burial in Rosedale Cemetery. Survived by son Roy Pynes, sister Eula Harrington, grand and great grandchildren, and other relatives. Previously of Gladewater since 1924 she and husband Chester H. Pynes owned Pynes Grocery and Market.
