White Oak Lions barbecue and community events announced

The Gladewater Chamber of Commerce heard a report on the East Texas Chamber of Commerce industrial tour led by James D. Eppwright. The six day West Coast trip drew 119 travelers, with 87 firm representatives at Los Angeles luncheon and 69 invited industrialists in San Francisco.

Obituary of John D. Marsh of Gladewater Tex

John D Doyle Marsh 68 died Wednesday at a local hospital after a long illness. He lived at Oak Manor and was a Sabine School District retiree and Masonic Lodge member. Funeral services are Thursday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Chapel with Rev B F Risinger Jr officiating. burial in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. He was born September 18 1904 in Arkansas and moved to Texas. Survived by wife Dean two daughters Shirley Brown and Carolyn Kelly two sisters Marie Jones Lois Selph four brothers A J Marsh Guy Marsh Lee Marsh and Paul Marsh six grandchildren. Gladewater board heard TAS Administrators meeting report

Gladewater School Board heard from Superintendent Roy Johnson and Assistant Superintendent O G Johnston about the Texas Association of School Administrators and Texas Association of School Board members meeting in San Antonio. They discussed ad valorem tax changes, regional assessing and tax base reforms, plus revenue ideas including taxing government housing units. The audit is near completion. tax collections through September total 1 179 215 49 with 93 48 percent collected. Enrollment rose to 1883 from 1788. Vocational enrollments total 329. Athletic facility work advances with grade beams and piers poured. Air conditioning for all rooms planned with bids for units and installation. SWEPCO assisting at no cost.

United Fund Campaign set to begin October 23

The United Fund of Gladewater announces a 1972-73 drive starting October 23 at St Clair Restaurant with a goal of 15,500 dollars. The thirteen agencies include the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, 4-H, Salvation Army, and others led by drive chairman Larry Aaron and officers Don Earp and Dale Barton. The campaign aims to conclude by November 6.
