East Texas Industrial Group Welcomed by New York Firms
The East Texas Industrial tour was warmly received by top New York firms with 164 executives dining at a Roosevelt Hotel luncheon. Mack Wiley of Gladewater reported by telephone from Detroit that group members included local leaders Quentin Abernathy and city manager. The tour continues to Milwaukee and Chicago before returning to Texas as Wiley joins a Connecticut Edison factory side trip with 24 others.

Firemen Win Attendance Award At Jacksonville
Gladewater Fire Department won first place in district Pumper Races for the fourth year. At Jacksonville the event drew 29 observers with Gladewater finishing second. A fire extinguisher was given for attendance. Meetings occur semiannually in district cities. A state pumper race at the Dallas State Fair will involve over 60 teams, with Gladewater planning to enter.

Area 4-H and FFA youths finally got their calves in October after winning at June's Glade Round-Up Rodeo. Calves averaging 325 to 350 pounds were distributed by rodeo directors David Moore and Russell Loyd.
