Fire Chief Harold Potts warns leaves should not be burned as heavy rains gave way to wind risk. A Union Grove incident nearly burned a house and trailer after leaves near a garage caught fire. the garage was a total loss and the house sustained about 300 dollars in damage with no injuries.
Gladewater meets Kaufman in a high stakes regional semifinal at Lobo Stadium Longview with kickoff at 8 p.m. Reserve tickets are $2 at Jobe Drug and DuBose Pharmacy. general admission not sold locally. DeKalb loss highlighted Bears grit and all out play.
Estes Clyde Morgan 78 died suddenly at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Waco while visiting his daughter Lola Mae Williford. Funeral at 3 p.m. Thursday Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Brannen. Burial at Gladewater Memorial Park. He was born January 23 1891 in Gatesville and lived in Gladewater since 1931. He was a Humble Oil retiree and World War I veteran with the American Legion. Survivors include wife Lola two daughters son and extended family. Pallbearers were grandsons and nephews.
Robert S. Dooley aged 62 died after a brief illness in a local hospital. Funeral services were conducted at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Brannen presiding and burial in Gladewater Memorial Park. He was born June 19, 1905 in Muldrow Oklahoma. Survived by wife Verlon two daughters Esther Ann Walker and Betty McCulley one son Robert W. Dooley a brother Ralph R. Dooley and nine grandchildren.
Clubs churches civic organizations and businesses must submit float entries by Monday December 1. Contact Mrs Mack Wiley at the Chamber office West Pacific 845-2626. Parade on Monday December 8 at 4 30 p m features Gladewater entities Kilgore Rangerettes and multiple area bands with Beaut y and twirling groups.
State Senator Jack Strong and his family will be honored at an appreciation dinner in Longview on Wednesday December 3 at 7 30 p m at the Contessa Inn. A M Willis Jr of Longview chairs the event attended by local and state officials. Senator Strong will be recognized by Senate colleagues with remarks from former Governor John Connally Lieutenant Governor Ben Barnes and National Democratic Committeeman Robert Strauss.
The Gladewater High School Band received a 3 rating in the Region IV Marching Band Contest in Tyler, with bands judged on UIL standards. Class AA results list Gladewater at 3 alongside several other schools. Class AAA and AAAA results include Texarkana, Marshall, Lufkin, Longview and Greenville with mixed ratings.
A second downtown pep rally is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday in front of City Hall led by Mack Wiley of the Chamber of Commerce. The event follows a prior rally near Gladewater High School and cheers for the Bears ahead of the regional clash with Kaufman in Longview.
