Hair Halted at Cozy Theater Over Safety Hazards

Four planned showings of the Broadway musical Hair at the Cozy Theater were stopped after Fire Marshal Harold Potts found defective wiring and inadequate exit lighting. He ordered power cut and cited prior inspections on Sept 27 and Oct 1 as showing hazards. The venue, leased by Allen Gaston, was preparing props brought in by a Shreveport troupe.

City council held a public hearing on Gladewater Airport improvements and approved a 23 lot Kay Acres subdivision plat by John Paul Tallent. Officials discussed new appearance procedures, traffic light at North Main and Gay, truck parking rules, a $20 000 Clarksville City payment, a cable survey, mineral tax valuers contract renewal, extra Christmas pay, and a junked car ordinance. Mayor Johnston announced Thanksgiving dinner and a Christmas star atop the water reservoir.

One Dead Three Injured In North Main Street Collision

A two car crash in the 400 block of North Main Street at 12 30 a m left one woman dead and three injured. Robin Kizer 22 of Gilmer died on arrival at a Gladewater hospital. Cindy Yokom 18 and Cheryl Hutchinson 24 were treated and transferred to Ragland Fenlow in Gilmer. Mrs J W Bobby Thompson 1002 Chevy Chase drove the other vehicle and was hospitalized with undetermined injuries. Investigators said the accident remains under study and occurred near a curve linked to previous crashes. Funeral services for Kizer will be Monday at 11 a m in Paris with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. She left a son Randalle Ray and a daughter Shelia Ann Ray. Her parents, a brother and two sisters also survive.

Senate Cancels Postage Bill for Gladewater Daily Mirror

The Senate voted to relieve Mrs. Mary James Kates owner of the Gladewater Daily Mirror from a $746.63 extra postage bill for third class rates dating back to 1966 1967 after postal officials concluded the deficiency arose from an administrative error and good faith reliance on Dallas advice. The measure follows House approval and cites a mistaken billing by the Post Office Department.
