Chamber of Commerce President Jack Earp reports the Halloween Carnival raised 591.47 at the baseball park on Oct. 30 including 89.75 from the dunking booth 174.85 from advance tickets and 326.87 from gate sales. Directors vote to pay 200 toward Green Carpet Route and plan Christmas lights and parade details while considering multi town adjuncts and Thanksgiving closures.

SWEPCO Plans Two New Coal Units At Welsh Plant

Southwestern Electric Power Company announces two additional coal fired units at the Welsh site between Pittsburg and Daingerfield in Titus county. Each unit will total 1.95 million KW with three units by 1982 and a 25 percent boost to SWEPCO's capacity. First unit begins 1972, others operational by 1980 and 1982.

Big Sandy Man Injured When Tractor Rolls Over

Elmo Splawn, 59, of Rt. 1 Big Sandy, was listed in stable condition after a tractor rolled onto him Tuesday afternoon. He suffered multiple fractures and other injuries and had surgery Tuesday night in a field near Sanders Street and Rick's Circle north of Gladewater off Highway 135 while hauling logs up an embankment.

Board opens laboratory bids at Gladewater hospital

Gladewater Municipal Hospital board meets to open three bids for a cardio-pulmonary lab. Allen and Patrick bid 122,500. Kerr Engineering 128,898. John Waddell Construction 143,433. All bids exceed the 100,000 estimate. architect to meet low bidder to adjust plans. Board to reconvene November 17 at 7:30.

Gladewater school board heard Bill Carroll outline Governor Dolph Briscoe's public school financing proposals. Highlights include raising minimum state support from 75 to 90 percent, and provisions for transportation funding, renewal and accountability, tax office assistance, and a State Tax Assessment Board to update taxable estimates.

City council sets a light agenda for Thursday’s regular session with no appearances or old business. Gladewater School Board Hears Audits and Plans December Contracts

Gladewater school board spent over three hours reviewing the 1975 76 audit showing the district in the black with a $136 000 spendable balance and proper records. They approved a 1976 77 textbook committee and discussed a joint city tax office contract with an upcoming November 22 meeting. A juvenile student was expelled for marijuana on campus while two executive sessions addressed the student and the tax office. The superintendent announced new buses arrived and a vocational agriculture building totaling about $126 621 should be completed soon. a December contract signing for the office is planned.

Enrollment hits 500 at Gay Avenue School

Gladewater school board heard from Principal Charles Hopson about rising enrollment at Gay Avenue School, now 500 students after a 499 count. He urged four new classrooms and four teachers as temporary buildings expand capacity. the board authorized a cost study by an engineer for next December.

United Fund Nears Goal Amid Strong 100 Percent Givers

The United Fund stood less than $2,000 from its $15,500 target with $1,899.13 reported by UF Secretary Jo Wiley at noon. Gay Avenue School Holiday of Texas Inc and First State Bank staff achieved 100 percent gifts, while many firms have yet to pledge.
