Gladewater High School Honors 27 Recipients at Commencement

At Gladewater High School 27 seniors received scholarships during Friday night commencement in the auditorium. Principal Don Smith presented the class. School Board President John Shipp awarded diplomas. Valedictory Anita Arrington and salutatory Russell Mullins spoke. the audience sang America and Alma Mater.

Gafford Slayer Pleads Guilty In Caddo Court

Bobby Ray Jones of Houston pleaded guilty in Caddo District Court to one manslaughter charge and two counts of simple kidnapping in the July slaying of Brady Eugene Gafford of Gladewater. He faces up to 21 years for manslaughter and up to 10 years for the kidnapping charges.

Gladewater prepares to welcome Wanda Morris as Wanda's Fabric Shop opens at 9 am Tuesday on Main Street. The new store stocks polyester knits including a 66 inch double knit from Israel on sale at 9.98 a yard, with other knits priced at 6.98 a yard. The owner touts polyester as low maintenance and highlights imported fabrics and careful sourcing.

No Gold or Silver But Couple Celebrates 63rd Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Lindsey of 803 W. Pacific mark 63 years of marriage. They wed in 1909 at Spring Hill Baptist Church after childhood acquaintances in Spring Hill La. Now 84 and 82, the couple moved to Gladewater in 1934 and Lindsey ran oil fields then retirement at 65. Their family includes five daughters Virginia Wedgeworth O L Ward Lois Addison G F Hughes J E White and many grandchildren great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Remodeling Underway at Day Care Center in Gladewater

The Sabine Valley Parish sponsored Day Care Center is closed for remodeling with plans to reopen soon. Center offers meals, naps, and educational activities. a $2 daily fee applies. Contact Mrs. Helen Glickman or Mrs. Vivian Dillard for information. Volunteers from local churches assist with activities and drapes were recently hung by committee members from First United Methodist Church and First Baptist Church.
