Kilgore College groups depart for Romania with flags and gifts
Kilgore College Rangerettes Ranger Band and Singing Rangers left for Romania with 600 four by six American flags and other gifts. Volunteers from Gladewater and Union Grove graduates joined 151 students supported by 500 plus sponsors. Under Friendship Ambassadors Inc funding covers about two thirds. students cover the rest.

Good Shepherd Hospital lease renewed to 2012
Gregg County Commissioners renewed the Good Shepherd Hospital lease to April 15, 2012 to permit a 5.8 million expansion financed by revenue bonds. The project adds seven operating rooms nine emergency rooms with six observation rooms and expands the ICU-CIU. A separate one million dollar hospital is still under planning by doctors and businessmen.

Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo asks girl racers to register
Girls from Gregg or nearby counties must register by Tuesday May 31 at 3 p.m. at the Round-Up office 200 North Main Street. A $25 entry plus $3.50 PRCA fee funds Denver processing. Registrants will have their names telephoned to Denver for drawings to assign ride nights. Under 18 require parental release. 19 and older sign their own.

Stolen Police Car Sparks Search by Gladewater Officers
Gladewater police sought a bronze 1976 Ford LTD marked patrol car with lights after it was stolen from the police garage around 3 a.m. An all points bulletin went out by noon and a DPS helicopter helped search by 11:30 a.m. Authorities asked the public to call the Gladewater police at PA5-2166 if seen.

Madie Sikes Dies After Short Illness at 80
Mrs. Madie Evelyn Sikes, 80, of 1111 Walnut, died Wednesday night in a local hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Rock Springs Cemetery. She was a Gregg County native, lifelong resident, and Church of Christ member. Survived by brother Robert Ingle, niece Doris Norfleet, and nephew Foy Smith.
