Edgar Partain to register a new business in Gladewater with Partain Oil Co. opening at 801 W Upshur across from Bear Stadium. Grand opening offers free cake donuts coffee and Pepsi Cola. Station features six pumps, national motor oil brands, and 16 ounce Pepsi Colas. Partain, longtime local, previously Liberty Petroleum manager, entrepreneur, resident at 2802 Bernice. Texas House halves voting age reduction bid to 19

In Austin 19-year-olds face another session before a constitutional change to lower the voting age to 19 may pass. The House fell five votes short of approval as amendments seeking 21 or 20 with conditions were rejected. Sponsor Nowlin cited about 400000 Texas youths impacted by the measure.

E R Pete McKain of Trapit Equipment Manufacturing says Trapit could become a national pastime. He acquired international rights to a new outdoor sport between Gladewater and Longview that blends soccer and golf on a 6 to 7 acre course with basic equipment and franchise opportunities.

CB Radio Club To Hear Talks By Officers

The Gladewater Citizens Band Radio Club will hear two talks on radio procedure and techniques Thursday night at 208 Quitman St. Club President Ray Walls said guest speakers will be Highway Patrolman Bobby Weaver of Longview and White Oak City Marshal Melvin Pitts. The session begins at 7:30 p.m. and Walls expects a good turnout with a public welcome.

Former Gladeite Wins Skeet Shoot Aggregate title for American servicemen

Raymond Ross of El Dorado and Gladewater origin won the aggregate championship of the Italian regional skeet championship for American servicemen near Brindisi. He placed in multiple gauge events, earned a spot among seven top regional shooters for the European open in Germany July 3 6, and will return to the United States in August to Richards Gebaur Air Force Base Missouri. Ross is married with two children and has 12 years in the Air Force.

Round-Up Rodeo Promotion Bus Leaves Thursday Morning

The Round-Up Rodeo Assoc will haul a chartered bus from Gladewater City Hall parking lot at 8 a.m. Thursday May 29 for a two day tour through 18 to 20 towns promoting the 32nd edition of Gladewater rodeo. About 32 local businessmen and rodeo boosters will ride, putting up posters and handing out balloons and pens to drum up support. The events run June 11 to 14, promising to boost Gladewater’s fame statewide.
