Billy Williams to showcase art in parish house Sunday

Corpus Christi painter Billy Williams will host a one man show and sale at St. Mark's parish house Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The 18-year-old former Gladewater resident has sold over 100 works in a bright abstract impressionist style. The event supports his ongoing speech and coordination rehabilitation after a life changing bike truck crash seven years ago.

Chamber Briefs Include New Member and Building Rules

SFA music camps draw hundreds of junior high students

Stephen F. Austin University sponsors three summer camps led by Mel Montgomery. Over 625 students from Texas Louisiana and Oklahoma are expected. The twirling camp runs June 11–16 with 325 plus attendees. drum major camp June 18–23. band camp June 25–30.

Mrs. Wilda Calvin 93 Dies. Funeral Thursday in Graham

Mrs. Wilda Calvin 93 longtime Gladewater resident died Wednesday in a local rest home after years of illness. Funeral services at 4 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Graham with Rev. Hubert Foust officiating. burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Survived by two daughters, three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a brother, and former husband T. Calvin who died in 1957. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wilda Calvin Student Scholarship Fund.

John Marshall Named New City Manager in Gladewater

Gladewater city council unanimously chose John Marshall of Forest Hill as city manager effective after current manager Bill Langford leaves in June. Acting city manager Roy Perryman will oversee duties until Marshall arrives. Marshall, 28, holds a BBA and a master's in public administration from North Texas State University and served in the U S Army earning the Bronze Star. He is married to Carol Sue, a speech therapist, and the couple attend Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth.

National Honor Society Initiates 32 Students at Gladewater High

The Ruth Aston chapter of the National Honor Society at Gladewater High School initiated 32 pledges in ceremonies this month. A tea followed in the homemaking department hosted by Mrs Roy Pynes and Mrs Joe Smith. Mary Jane Wiley presided with officers Scott Richard Nichols and Sharon Flame Blear.

Gladewater High School held a baccalaureate service with a processional invocation and benediction led by local pastors. The event featured scripture reading by Rev. Harry Hunt, a Jackson High School Choir performance, and remarks from senior class president Terry Sasser.

Big Sandy approves school bond issue

The Big Sandy school bond plan won by 53 votes and authorizes 890000 to build a new district plant on Haw kings Street near the existing track. Construction starts this fall for the 1973 74 year. The Board of Education will meet to canvass returns tonight and Mrs Lucille Wimberley notes strong turnout in both owner and non-owner boxes.

Kiwanis sponsored beard growing contest reaches halfway mark with 27 entrants vying for 225 in prize money. Judges from Kilgore College Rangerettes, poster art from Randy Wakefield's classes, and Shaving permit sales support the Kiwanis youth program.
