Gladewater primary school hosts a spring roundup Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Gay Avenue Primary School auditorium. Requirements include district residency birth certificate immunization record and age criteria for kindergarten and first grade enrollment. Parents urged to pre enroll even if records are not complete.
Gregg County grand jurors indicted Lynda Ziegler McCann and Joseph Stanley Faulder for capital murder in the death of Mrs. Inez Phillips of Gladewater. James Millard Moulton Jr. was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and burglary of a habitation. Bond denied for McCann and Faulder. all remained jailed.
Barbara Williams of Longview won best of show in the East Texas Fine Arts Association membership exhibition in Longview. Her silk screen based on an Emily Dickinson poem required nine color runs and earned help from her husband Jim who built the plexiglass frame. Other local winners included Jacquie Olson Sharon Standridge Jane Pierce Virginia Studt and Polly Conway. Jurors were Jeanne Velde Nancy C. McCain and James M. Martin.
Golf fans may spot a familiar face as Byron Nelson Pro-Am pits ex Gladette Wayne Mueller with Ben Crenshaw, teeing off before former President Ford and Bob Hope. Mueller hails from Plano, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Mueller.
The Union Grove Lions lead Hawkins 3 1 in a seven game district 14 A baseball final. A recent 13 10 win in Hawkins followed a 4 2 Gladewater Bear Park victory as Randy Davis earned a complete game win and Wee Wee Liddell powered home a round tripper for the Lions.
In Gladewater the Al Knauf family begins construction of a solar heated three bedroom home on Highway 271 South. Builder Bob Luckabaugh uses an air collector with rock storage claiming 75 to 85 percent of yearly heating. options for hot water collectors and roof mounted units are discussed with costs from 4700 to 5900 dollars plus installation.
Two new directors were elected to the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce board to fill unexpired terms. Paul Goodchild will serve the Hugh Camp term ending 1979 and John Paul Tallent will serve the remaining year of Mack Wiley. Both were elected by acclamation.
First State Bank President Quentin Abernathy announced that social security checks deposited directly to banks were mispunched at the source, affecting about 200,000 checks. He stated the error would be corrected automatically and may recur in June, but recipients need not worry.
