Gladewater Band Boosters plan a Tuesday May 6 meeting at the high school band hall. Topics include a Disneyworld trip and a June rodeo booth plus election of 1975 76 officers.
GMH began in 1950 after Gladewater residents voted bonds to create a municipally owned hospital. The original 29 beds expanded to 64 with new surgery and emergency facilities and an intensive care unit. Board members include Gordon Mayer chair and Raymond Allen treasurer. The staff features Drs. Bloom, McKenzie, Hugman, Kent, and Moser, with honorary doctors Leake and Hancock. Specialists from Longview also serve, alongside many consultants from Kilgore, Tyler and Longview. Training for personnel has advanced alongside equipment.
Roy Johnson as Chamber president announced the committee heads for the 1975 76 year. Leon Kapchinsky first vice president leads Economic Growth Division with Billy Ray Johnston agriculture Raymond Allen industrial development Dickie Phillips manufacturer council Jack Phillips oil and gas Jack Earp second vice president Community Improvement Division. Also named were Tony and others with several posts still to fill. Funeral services for Calvin Lee Pierce are planned Friday at Faith Tabernacle. He was 26 and employed at Texas Eastman in Longview. He is survived by his wife, five sons, and extended family.
E. J. Best of SWEPCO spoke to the Gladewater Kiwanis Club detailing efforts to keep electric service affordable now and in the future. He noted SWEPCO serves 288000 customers across 25000 square miles in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas and highlighted cost advantages and efficiency drives.
