Gladewater to Open Medco Center with Drive Through Pharmacy
A new medically oriented shopping center is planned for Gladewater on West Upshur opposite the Municipal Hospital. Groundwork is underway and foundation construction has begun for a Medco Pharmacy as the first phase, with a May 1 opening. Charles Wilson will own the pharmacy and offer a drive through prescription service and a gift shop.

Library to Acquire Borglum Roosevelt Bust
Longview art enthusiast Henry Wedemeyer plans to donate a Borglum original bust of Theodore Roosevelt to a local library. Wedemeyer, an engineer for Southwestern Bell, befriended Borglum during travels in the Carolinas and San Antonio where Borglum sought sites for memorials. The work joins the library’s collection as public interest grows in Borglum’s Mt. Rushmore legacy and his son Lincoln’s artistic pursuits.

Briscoe Sees Excellent Chance In 1972 Governor Bid
Dolph Briscoe Jr., longtime South Texas civic leader and former gubernatorial candidate, told a Chamber of Commerce banquet audience Thursday he never stopped running since 1968 and his 1972 chances look excellent. He plans no firm announcement yet and foresees a late year statement. He warned of rising state spending and taxes while predicting a tremendous development era for Texas.
