Local builder Joe Jones announced at the Chamber of Commerce meeting that a new Goodyear Service Center will be built on the former McKaig Chevrolet lot on Main Street near US 80. The 5,000 square foot store will feature four service bays, a wheel aligner, and will sell General Electric appliances. Construction starts in about a month, with local contractors used where possible.
Orville Guy Roush 73 died on arrival at a Glade water hospital Sunday morning after a sudden illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Stone Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Irby D. Bates officiating. Burial followed at King Cemetery in Kemp, Texas. He was born October 28, 1895 in Warren Indiana and lived 36 years at Lake Devernia, formerly of Kilgore. Survivors include his wife Essie two daughters Virginia Fowler and Faith Younse a son Russell Roush three sisters and a brother.
Washington announces a $20,220 federal grant for a Clarksville City interceptor sewer at a pump station, part of a $67,400 project funded by the Federal Water Pollution Control Administration. Mayor Griffin represents the community. Also, Vietnam veteran James Bibb Jr. is recovering from injuries in Vietnam, with Red Cross updates and his Union Grove roots noted.

The city council, in a special meeting, voted to sell 325000 in revenue bonds to Underwood-Neuhaus of Houston at 6.0161 percent, the lowest bid among three. Proceeds will fund sanitary sewer improvements, half of the 650000 authorized, plus a 77790 federal grant. Bonds mature in 1991 and may be retired as early as March 15, 1984, with funds available after attorney general approval.
A grinding head-on collision two miles north of Diana on Highway 259 killed four people Tuesday afternoon. Victims were Walter Pond 19 of Longview, Mrs. Billy Joe Willeford 37, Kathy Willeford 13 and Jani Richey 13 from Route 5 Gilmer. Pond drove one car while Mrs Willeford led the other. Kathy and Jani were passengers en route to band practice.
Joe Hammond to receive a special award for volunteer service to East Texas Tuberculosis Hospital at a luncheon on April 16 1969. Hammond and his band have supported the hospital through annual March of Dimes appearances for 14 years and will perform there on April 14.
Gladewater Chief H L Sharrock announces two hour parking rules are back in effect in the downtown business area. Police report complaints of drivers leaving cars all day. As of March 26 the department issues 3 day warning tickets. violators will be fined.
