Gladewater Board Approves Calendar and Programs

The Gladewater School Board held a four hour session approving prior minutes and accounts, hearing the tax report, and finalizing plans for the 1969-70 calendar, summer school, middle school studies, textbook committee report, and professional staff contracts for next year.

Lions Club hosts annual broom sale Friday April date around 4 p m with a house to house canvass. Proceeds support Lions projects. Police Chief warns drivers to slow in school zones and strict enforcement. Gladewater Jaycees pancake breakfast March 15 from 5 a m to noon at the Community Building. Also ad offering two yellow cats for giveaway and a water fact about oceans. School board reports on vocational education, buses, and personnel moves for 1969 70. East Texas Revue date set with family fun night

The 21st annual East Texas Revue, a musical gala sponsored by the American Legion and created by Ken Bennett, is set for 8 p.m. at Gladewater High School auditorium on Friday March 21. Featured acts include Gladewater and Kilgore College performers with 30 numbers and a style show. Tickets go on sale Thursday at Jobe Drug and at the door.

Proposed Middle School Program Of Studies For 1969 Gladewater

Gladewater Independent School District approves a 1969 middle school program. Grade six covers English Reading Spelling Mathematics Social Studies Writing and science with health and safety, plus art vocal and instrumental music. Grade seven includes core subjects with electives in art chair band metal drawing or independent study. Grade eight adds typing speech and independent study as electives. Modified curriculum includes coordinated vocational academ ic education and student participation in stage productions and subject clubs encouraged at grade eight. Scholastic citizenship and service awards should be encouraged.

Precious Gems pageant theme selected for Gladewater

John Paul Tallent, general chairman of the Jaycee sponsored Miss Gladewater pageant, announced the theme Precious Gems for the 10th annual event. The pageant will be June 6 in the Gladewater High School auditorium with Donna Russell crowned as Miss Gladewater. Tallent promises the show will be the most ambitious yet with a future look in stage settings, music, and costumes. Tickets are available through any Jaycee.

Choir Members Score Well At Contest

Gladewater High School choir members performed well at the East Texas State University contest in Commerce last Saturday. About 80 junior high and high school singers, directed by Ken Bennett, earned first division honors including Steve Hilton Bill Sloan Brian Kirbo Bobby Britt Buddy LaPrade Mark Mills Jane Dawson Linda Martin Gloria Phillips ensemble groups and individual pianists.

Gwater School Calendar Signals Nine Week System Shift

The Gwater school calendar lists August 27-29 faculty workshop, a Sept 2 first full day, and a series of nine week periods through May 29. Holidays include Nov 27-28, Dec 20-Jan 3, Easter week, and a June graduation with nine week reporting to begin next year.

Mary Jane Wiley Wins First In State For Latin Costume

Gladewater freshman Mary Jane Wiley won first place in the girls costume contest at the Texas State Junior Classical League Convention in Port Arthur on March 7 and 8. Her Roman bride outfit cost 10.64 of a 15 limit, with sister notes on design and accessories. Wiley serves as chapter president and holds multiple school offices and activities. Peggy Jones Cathy Muntz Keel Liddell and sponsors joined her at the convention.
