Vacation Reading Club honors top readers at Gladewater library

Certificates will be awarded at a Texas State Library closeout party. Sunday July 6 features an all day service at Clarksville Baptist Church with Rev G B Endersley pastor. James Sparks Jr Sabine Valley Parish director will speak at First Presbyterian Sunday 10 a.m. worship. Camp Gilmont counselor Rev Walter Buehrle will resume duties after July 13. Holy Communion will be served July 13. Friendship Homes program July 6 includes Sunday School 9:30 worship 10:15 singing 11, dinner 12:30, singing 1:45. Marshall Logsdon reported a fishing trip to Lake Gladewater with rough water and white caps in his minnow bucket. Gladewater Rotarians install 1969 70 officers
Garland Ferguson was installed as president of the Gladewater Rotary Club for 1969-70 at the installation banquet held at Don's Restaurant with about 50 Rotarians and guests present. Other officers named were Rev. James Brannen, vice president. Richard Herbst, secretary. Bill Langford, treasurer. Directors included Ollie Ducey, Ernest Martin, Royce Ford and Charles McChesney. District Governor Austin B. Watson praised the club and noted near perfect attendance. Outgoing President Rev. Irby Bates received tribute for his programs and introduced scholarship winners Paula Setzler, Garth Cockerell Jr., Margaret Phillips and Mike Moore. Miss Gladewater Sherry Deniel, sponsored by the club, was introduced and will compete in the Miss Texas Pageant in Fort Worth July 1. Longstanding attendance honorees were Herman Williams, 27 years. Charles McChesney, 25. Neal Cooper, 24. and Charles Walker, 23.
