Lon Cox Named New LG Coach At Union Grove High
Union Grove High School approves Lon Cox as teacher and assistant football coach replacing one of two open positions. Cox, son of F A Cox of Gladewater, graduated 1968 from Gladewater High, attended Kilgore College, and earned a degree from East Texas State University in physical education and history. He has coached at Travis Junior High in Irving for three years, with a district-winning track team this season.

The Gregg County Crime Prevention Bureau sponsors a two session seminar at the Contessa Inn Longview on July 8 from 9 am to noon and 7 pm to 10 pm. Speakers include James E. City ambulance damaged in Longview mishap
A Longview Two vehicle crash at 2nd Street and Marshall Avenue left an ambulance severely damaged and two people lightly hurt. The unit, en route from Gladewater to Good Shepherd Hospital with a heart attack patient, was driven by James Chasteen of Gladewater. Special equipment ambulance suffered front end damage. The patient’s nurse, Gail Levy, sustained minor injuries. David Johansen, 17, of 904 S 12th Street, received minor injuries but was not hospitalized. Johansen was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Fire Chief Ronnie Gothard said the ambulance would be out of service for some time.
