The Saturday night cap of the 38th Round-Up Rodeo highlighted top performances as contestants chased 13895.38 in prize money. H W Fowler of Van received the Silver Spurs award for sportsmanship, having earned about 5000 over 18 years and volunteering to aid fellow cowboys. Jerry Coble of Rock Island won bareback on Little Ruby with 73 points, T J Walters scored 71 on Crazy One, and Marty Richter rode Devils Dream. Tom Epperson of Cherokee captured calf roping with a 12.5 second run.

Union Grove School to Raise Local Funds Amid State Aid Increases
Trustees heard that new legislation will require an extra 20 000 local dollars while state transportation funds rise to 20 000 and operational funds to 19 000. An additional 25 000 will fund teacher salaries as ADA grows. officials expect to finish the year in the black without raising taxes. The First National Bank of Gilmer was approved as depository as the board prepared for year-end items and personnel sessions.
