Rioting Brahma Bull Injures Rodeo Clown at 35th Round-Up
A Brahma bull mauled clown Frank McIlvain of Balch Springs Texas during the final minutes of the 35th Annual Round-Up Rodeo. McIlvain suffered two or three broken ribs and was taken to Municipal Hospital after the bull charged him as officials and nearby contestants drove the animal away. He left for Mesquite after X rays. No other injuries were reported during the four day event.

Edgar C. Red Smith 70 of 611 West Pacific died Monday in Shreveport’s Veterans Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Malcolm Stone Funeral Home Chapel with ministers Fred Lester and Bill Taylor. burial at Rock Springs cemetery. Survived by wife Mary Elizabeth two sons James H. Hendley Tyler and Donald R. Hendley and daughter Patsy Ruth Tate. He was a World War I veteran, retired boilermaker, and a Methodist.

Gladewater Chamber to sponsor Fourth of July lake events
The Gladewater Chamber of Commerce plans a lake celebration on July 4 with the chamber handling all events for the first time. The Women's Division will run the Little Miss Gladewater contest at the boat dock at 10 30 a.m. with three prizes and special gifts for entrants age 6 through 10. The Mirror office can register entrants or mail in forms. The fire department will stage a larger fireworks display at 3 30 p.m. The city warns against private fireworks within city limits and a patrol will enforce the rule.
